Mt. Wakakusa, Nara

4.1
Surround yourself in evergreen scenery and immerse yourself in nature at Mt. Wakakusa. Almost completely covered in grass, the 342 m (1,122 ft) high hill provides you with a peaceful atmosphere, perfect for a picnic while you enjoy views over the nearby town. As you follow man-made trails around the mountain, you will come across deer who call the local area home. Once a year, a festival in which locals burn the dead grass of the hill takes place, a tradition that supposedly originated in 1760. According to legend, it was the result of a boundary dispute between two temples. Take a look at our Nara trip itinerary planning tool to schedule your visit to Mt. Wakakusa and learn about what else to see and do during your holiday.

  • During wet weather, this viewpoint is not attractive. After the path flows the stream of water and mud, you can easily slip and certainly wybrudzić. To the top takes about 20-30 min place is probably a lot more attractive during sunny weather but this in Japan is not easy. At the foot of the hill there are numerous shops, manufacturers knives and scissors. In addition to the acquisition of good knives you can view photos and exhibits from the production process.

The historic city of Nara has a welcome number of accommodations for an urban area of its importance and popularity. Close to the main train station stand the main high-rise hotels in the city, all towering over the commercial and modern district that greets train travelers on arrival.
