Enjoy tea on tatami under the thatched roofs of Isuien Garden, admiring unparalleled panoramic views of an attractively manicured landscape next to Yoshikigawa River. Originally built in 1670, with Edo-period additions, this privately owned garden spans roughly 13,500 sq m (145,000 sq ft), and remains the only walking garden in Nara. The central pond features two islands with sculptures of a crane and a tortoise, representing longevity. You can visit the Neiraku Museum within the complex, featuring a collection of early East Asian art. Located in central Nara, the garden sits a 15-minute walk from Kintetsu Nara station. • For lovers of Japanese Gardens, then get lost in the alleys behind the temple and walk around taking his time: everything is beautiful and finds its place in a calm and serene atmosphere. A beautiful zen moment despite the summer heat.

  • Beautiful gardens. Very peaceful. Visiting this place was one of the highlights of my month in Japan. Walking these grounds feels like being in a magical place.
  • It is a private garden and has some very beautiful scenes. Great if you are a photography lover. Not sure it worth the money of 900 yen. But, it does offer a museum to watch and a locker to put your bags while you watch the park, FREE!
  • Beautiful gardens. Definitely get a guided tour. Fun and informative.
  • 900¥ for this garden.. This is by fare the most expensive garten in Japan by now and I did visit about 50 now... And its not the best one.. Save your money and visit the garten 100m west from this one. It's free for tourists and beautiful.
  • Beautiful but 900JPY is a bit expensive for what it is. Recommended if you haven't seen any Japanese garden so far.
