Naoshima, Naoshima-cho
(3.9/5 based on 340+ reviews on the web)
Take a boat from Uno (Honshu) or Takamatsu (Shikoku) to explore Naoshima, a small island known for its modern art museums and natural sights. Rent a bike upon arrival to travel around the island in style, taking in its charmingly selective and thoroughly modern cultural sites, and tranquil sandy beaches. The contrast between the thrilling modernity of the island's cultural highlights and its laid-back, rustic atmosphere makes for an unusual but pleasant mix. Don't rush the experience, and take the time to explore the island's charms, both futuristic and traditional. • Interested in contemporary art, I went during the fall session of the triennial. First disappointment, there is a Mitsubishi factory on the island and it slightly ruins the landscape on arrival. Second disappointment, to 5000 Yen the pass for the triennial, still asked me to pay 1000 yen for the Chichu Museum and wait for an hour to buy my ticket; then he had to wait in front of almost every room, to take off your shoes regularly (this is the only time in my life where I déchausserai me before Monet) and to hear still more regularly that the photos are prohibited. Third disappointment, three museums Benesse are close, almost close, you have to walk from one to the other, it's not worth it to wait for the bus, so it lengthens the time past. Fourth disappointment, force to attend these museums of concrete, with one side prison sometimes, after the third I had a dislike of the concrete. A lot of concrete for little present art and never have a seat or a bench to sit and take time to admire a work. Should sit on the floor on the concrete? Finally, the walk in the sculpture park brought a bit of nature and greenery. Time to take the bus and arrived at the port, it was the last boat. I didn't have time to see something else. The next day I came back to the art house project, one home in the dark was definitely worth the trip, with walls painted in black, modern was worth the trip, the rest bof.

  • Benesse House, especially in works of art. Originally Island Mitsubishi's flagship factory 100 years continued, and the population of more than 3,000 people, and cash as is. City Hall building is beautiful.
