Art House Project, Naoshima-cho

(4.1/5 based on 240+ reviews on the web)
Art House Project allows Japanese and foreign artists and architects to turn abandoned buildings into large-scale art installations that help visitors discover the everyday life of a small fishing village. Scattered around the neighborhood, the houses are almost impossible to find without a map, some help from locals, and interaction with other travelers, which makes the whole experience seem like a treasure hunt. Do not miss a replica of the Statue of Liberty and the glass staircase at the Go'o Shrine. • A number of old houses has been transformed into art installation. For the access we bought the tickets upon arrival at the island. Some very worthwhile, others less. Shooting should not. Not every house is easy to find because the map is not correct, and because there is only a very small sign on the property.
