Art House Project, Naoshima-cho

4.1
#3 of 11 in Things to do in Naoshima-cho
Art House Project allows Japanese and foreign artists and architects to turn abandoned buildings into large-scale art installations that help visitors discover the everyday life of a small fishing village. Scattered around the neighborhood, the houses are almost impossible to find without a map, some help from locals, and interaction with other travelers, which makes the whole experience seem like a treasure hunt. Do not miss a replica of the Statue of Liberty and the glass staircase at the Go'o Shrine. Put Art House Project at the forefront of your travel plans using our Naoshima-cho trip itinerary planner .

  • South Temple is most crowded. Was at the entrance to wait about 40 minutes. Ticket Office is in another location, entry to 16:30 so caution is required.

  • The principle of the Art House project is to have confided to contemporary artists of the fishermen's houses abandoned, to charge for them to make an art installation. And the result is awesome! With your card, go you overdrawn Onmura and the houses of the Art House project. Of Kadoya, the oldest, Tatsuo Miyajima (water and the time that elapses) Minamidera of Tadao Ando and James Turrell (light and perception) through the kitsch of Haisha or the sanctuary Go'O... A great time that pleases everyone!
