Gokayama, Nanto
(4.4/5 based on 170+ reviews on the web)
At Gokayama, see how the area's traditional gasshō-zukuri houses found their way onto the World Heritage List. Not a single nail was used in construction of these three- to four-story houses; the style of minka (residents for non-samurai castes) developed during the Edo period, and today people continue to live in them. Steep roofs at 60-degree angles add a special charm and prevent snow from building up. During summer, artists from all around the world gather for the World Drama Festival in the picturesque scenery. Although relatively noncommercialized and slow-paced, the area does offer a souvenir shop and cafe. Enjoy the fresh air and mountain landscape, which in winter has an especially magical ambiance. • This way is recommended non-tourist destination than Shirakawa-go very slowly, silently, to go around. Because it can lift from the parking lot was not only on the time relationship between proximity to GOKAYAMA suganuma gassho style village, wheelchair within 10 minutes. I'm disappointed with the Museum, however, and the tunnel to the suganuma village is on the other side. What is long-awaited walked the show and how to show too bad.

  • Interchange next to the Shirakawa-go, again from Gifu Prefecture moved to Toyama Prefecture Gokayama. Elevator ride from the parking lot to fall down the mountain and passed through the tunnel, was the Gokayama gasshou-zukuri settlement. Shirakawa-go is surprisingly tourism and foreigners, are full of tourists, but not here. Remain quiet and peaceful atmosphere of the past. It is much smaller than the Shirakawa-go, from the... Be disappointed people, and this is great. Would be divided into people who think with both sects. Personally, this is like that. It is recommended that if you have time, visit Shirakawa-go and Gokayama and both.

  • I visited last year. Introduction to Shirakawa-go or I was busy and wanted to do, the Gokayama Gassho. It is very idyllic scenery and good location. Living now because watching a little bit tender, around. Landscape with a thatched roof is very calm, the air felt good. Yamada I'm saddened spectacle wearing rice panicle in rice paddies, still more was wind. So crowded was later found out that the Shirakawa-go to. And fell on the road and car park entrance is comparatively cheaper.
