Kudakajima Island, Nanjo

4.6
#4 of 11 in Parks in Nanjo
Sometimes referred to as “"the island of the God,"” folklore says that the god Amamikiyo descended on the heavenly Kudakajima Island and introduced multi-grains essential for life. Arriving at the ferry port, you can peruse some gift shops and grab a bite to eat, including the opportunity to sample a local delicacy, the deadly seasnake (hand-captured by the islanders). Consider hiring a bike at the port, a good way to get around the island, but be aware that some areas are sacred and you won't be able to set foot there. Take a map from the ferry to identify the forbidden areas. Planning Nanjo trip won't be overwheling when you use's Insprock itinerary maker.

Arrive at around high speed ship, ferry or 20 minutes 15 minutes from the port of 安座間, Southeast of the main island of Okinawa. On the weeknight 10 o'clock ferry went to kudaka Island, but it was almost full. I was surprised but there are boats seat about 40 people was going to the tourist. In kudaka island transportation is bicycle, borrowed a bicycle from the reception staff very much not the northernmost of Colbert Cape 15 minutes. This Cape is a myth, said location landed for the first time the amamikiyo shrine in Okinawa. The wind was a contrast of the color of the sea is very beautiful place. Slow-moving, watching the sea and about 3 hours was just stay.

From the port of 安座間 will arrive in 30 minutes. Ships flight 1, five flights only not so much, way back in time. I calculated. I think most people have bicycles by island-hopping. Families with children had put the children rented a bicycle with. Did not see people hardly are there right from the port. You can see pristine beaches on the north side of the island is almost uninhabited, but. Saw them so hard it looks like there many power spot and sacred places on the island, if the guide is good. I think it's okay just to go around the island two hours if.

Where to stay in Nanjo

Like in most cities in Okinawa, Nanjo offers a contrast of basic lodgings and expensive, fancy resorts. Hotels tend follow the coastline south and east of Nanjo, with luxurious options perched on the hilltop above the city offering views of Nakagusuku Bay. Bed & breakfast-type pensions are the most common mid-range options, but you can also find inexpensive "ryokan" (traditional guesthouses) close to the beach. Inexpensive guesthouses can be found on Ojima Island, just off the coast and accessible via bridge.
