Yachimun Street, Naha

3.8
#1 of 10 in Neighborhoods in Kyushu-Okinawa
Instead of all the neon and modern Japanese style, Yachimun Street offers something completely different: a limestone-paved road full of ceramic studios, stores, and galleries. The street came to prominence 300 years ago, when the Ryukyu administration decided to gather all the potters in one place for a singular purpose--to produce ceramic jars. As you explore the calm neighborhood, visit the onsite pottery museum to learn about the history of this area. Observe local artisans as they pay homage to their heritage and make works of art on a daily basis. If you love the craft, you can also join the pottery-making classes to hone your skills with professional guidance. • Was staying at the Hyatt and walks I was seeing. Pottery shop and feel up there and hear the price, but I was trying to buy a dish or, if there is an affordable and very good price, eventually buying one was. What looks a little luxury like Bake Shop along the way, there is a lot of Shisa, purchased 5000 yen.

  • The number of stores not much. Yomitan yachimun's and with different flavor. Not far from the street! Tourism in Naha recommended. Cafés are scattered. You can search as well as works by up-and-coming artists. Yomitan, Tsuboya yaki, Yaki and searchable. You might break up because there are various tastes. Mixing old and new, and various miscellaneous. Good stores but also try choose my own preferences are not good.

  • Traditional pottery, not always welcoming shops but the flood of tourists explained without doubt... very little pottery "modern" everywhere the same. We ended up finding dishes to a beautiful blue sashimi but in one shop.
