Tamaudoun Site, Naha

(2.8/5 based on 260+ reviews on the web)
Observe Tamaudoun Site, a 16th-century mausoleum for the royal family of the Ryukyu Kingdom. The mausoleum features three different crypts for kings, queens, princes, princesses, and the recently deceased prior to undergoing Okinawan burial traditions. Constructed of natural rocks, it features intricate symbols of the royal family. In front of the entrance sit two Shisha statues acting as the tomb guards. Unfortunately, the crypts are not open to the public, and information is not available in English. Using our world travel planner, Naha attractions like Tamaudoun Site can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • Tomb of the old kings of Okinawa. Quiet and peaceful. Have a small museum in site. Not very busy. Need to purchase ticket to go in. Very eerie feeling walking around as this is essentially a grave sit...  more »
  • Interesting place to visit if history is your thing. Not really a family or kids place. Remember to visit the downstairs display at the visitors centre.  more »
  • If you are planning a visit to Shuri Castle, add this to your plans. It is about a two-minute walk from the castle. There is not much there, but worth the visit.  more »
