Naminoue-gu Shrine, Naha

3.9
See the impressive setting and learn about the rich history of Naminoue-gu Shrine, a place of worship set high on a bluff overlooking the ocean and a beach. Legend has it a fisherman founded the shrine here to mark the spot where he caught a glowing stone that improved his hauls. Given its dramatic coastal position, the Shinto shrine's dedication to the sea and nirai kanai, the source of life, makes sense, as does its historical connection with fishermen and sailors, with maritime workers coming here to ask for protection and safe passage. Dating back to at least the 14th century, the shrine was destroyed during the battle of Okinawa in 1945, and has been rebuilt and added to during the post-war era. A visit to Naminoue-gu Shrine represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Naha visit planning website to plot your vacation.

  • YUI rail asahibashi station, 15 minutes from the seaside near the shrine. "Tears and roasted giblets Gu" and seem to read the prayer for children, such as delivery or first 宮詣 and ask, but please pray for safety and pray for prosperity, etc., as it is possible. The main hall is not large, but in the sacred buildings, such as Okinawa was a shrine can feel. I think there is Torii shrine there ranging from the little stairs, but fewer Office set aside parking easy to visit. However, had become a den of foreign group going in the afternoon and in a loud voice, a commemorative photo in front of the main building. Side and into the commotion behind the charm to watching, waiting, in visits to dedicates very pure heart. Visiting in the early hours of the morning may be better.

  • The became a downpour, but parking assist firmly tells me. Note that hobby friends get nokyo-sho has been seeing. Location changed a little on the Hill, facing the sea. It may be better seen from the sea side.

  • 感jiremashita passed through the gate the flow of good feelings. Now feel the power charge that was left burning in the sunny weather, unusual in March on the day of the Sun in the shade, the breeze. On the way back, nokyo-Sho is the top body was lightly felt.

  • Located near the beach, barely 5 minutes walk. As it was new year’s eve, there were lots of stalls set up, pending the new year celebrations. Lots of food, fun games and gift stores to keep you entertained. The shrine had the normal Japanese rituals of washing your hands and making a donation before prayers, where you clap your hands twice. Not to worry, the instructions for these are all just by the side, in case you do not know what to do. It isn’t really a huge place, but the park, museum and beach are just nearby.
  • I go here every year after the countdown there is a long wait to get into the shrine to pray for good luck, buying amulets and then feast on the local food and games while enjoying the beach. This temple is for all 12 Chinese animals.
  • Located on the top of beautiful beach. It is a tiny shrine but one of the most famous shrines in Naha. Walkable distance from Asahibashi Yui-rail station.
  • Stumbled upon this shrine. Bought a fortune amulet and I got a good reading :) tied it to the posts in the shrine as everyone else did. Bought other amulets for luck, success, overall good stuff. this place has very peaceful vibes and I stayed here for a while even though I don't practice this religion.
  • We got here after closing, it was so beautiful. They had lots of signs in English so you could understand what to do. We ended up going to the beach for a bit and seeing a kind man feeding the stray cats at a park near the beach. Our 10 year old son was so touched by this experience he loves all the wild cats and really wants to help them. He tried to love on any cat he could as the man fed them.
