Hosho-in (Osu Kannon), Nagoya

3.7
A modest, red-lacquered Buddhist temple, Hosho-in (Osu Kannon) remains known for its monthly flea market and profusion of pigeons. Originally built in the 17th century, the temple was unfortunately destroyed and had to be rebuilt in 1970s. Interestingly, it holds the only copy of the Kojiki--ancient chronicles of Japanese history and mythology--though the document remains out of public view. Take advantage of the photo opportunities among the pigeons and picturesque architecture. On the 18th of every month you can hunt for souvenirs at the flea market. • In Gifu erected in 1333, in 1612 by order of Tokugawa Ieyasu, it was transferred to its present location. Ask the air raid in 1945, with the great fire of 1892, twice burned through 1970 to present concrete building externals seems to have been that the dignified and stately building, looks, there is blessing such atmosphere. I am pleased that Tsu Kannon and Asakusa Kannon Temple as Japan 3 Taikan sound Osu Kannon Temple, this foot was light to carry. Having a look back could visit here so it is a blessing to all sorts of things in themselves and increase their heart is more important for, I thought. Our awarded us a blessing or not even felt like his mind as soon as ✨

  • 1333 Foundation is the date Temple was burned in the air raid, the temple is rebuilt in reinforced concrete in 1970. Not the green of the trees. Scale is a large Buddhist temple, so hope that reconstruction in wood. Sightseeing and shopping package is good.

  • It is a temple dedicated to Kannon, a bodhisattva also known as the Goddess of Mercy. (This goddess is very popular in East Asian countries such as Japan, China, Korea, Vietnam, Singapore, etc.) The temple is easily accessible by subway and there is a bustling shopping street next to the temple. The temple itself is great for watching people and admiring traditional Japanese architecture.
  • A major shrine in Nagoya. It is a vibrantly colored shrine with a great variety of charms and many statues of various boddhisatva. A unique aspect of this shrine is the pigeons that you can feed for some great photo opportunities.
  • It's big, beautiful, famous, and in a fantastic location. Easy to get to and in the best foot access shopping district in the city.
