Nagasaki Penguin Aquarium, Nagasaki

4.3
#3 of 7 in Zoos & Aquariums in Nagasaki Prefecture
Zoo / Aquarium Nature / Park
Nagasaki Penguin Aquarium offers a glimpse at nine different penguin types, including rare species. Meet the large, gentle king penguin, as well as the little penguin--the smallest penguin species in the world. The aquarium lets you get up close to these lovable creatures, and children can delight in feeding and petting them. Row a kayak in the nature zone--an outdoor part of the compound--and then explore the biotope environment. Other than penguins, the aquarium also holds fish. • So adorable especially during feeding time. It's also cheap (I think less than AUD$10). But difficult to get to by bus if you don't know what your doing. Their buses names are in kanji rather than num...  more »

  • Notable collection of penguins, both cold-weather and temperate penguins. Lovely area with penguins living in the bay. Don't miss feeding time when they broadcast feed and have penguins walk alongside you on the beach. Large number of King penguins with glass enclosure where you can get close and have a great look at them. Everything is CASH ONLY. Tickets, food, everything. Bring cash!!
  • If you like penguins it's a place for you. There is also few other sea life creatures and possibility to feed penguins. Downside it's a short tour so to say, maybe 30 min and more if you take it slow.. going there with city busses is little tricky because "tourist paper" says buss name (where you need to get on) in romanji but the buss it self is only kanjis. I asked from tourist guide and they gave the right kanjis to look for. About 270¥ was the ticket price in buss.
  • Absolutely awesome place, penguins are treated well and seem happy. A place to go for all ages.
  • This aquarium is a must see if you are in Nagasaki and you love penguins. It's small, but has many different places to see the penguins, even on the beach outside. This was the closest I'd ever seen a penguin and it was really fun. Check the website for information about feeding times and make sure you see at least one. It might take an hour to get through everything at a moderate pace. It was a bit difficult figuring out how to go to the Aquarium from Nagasaki, but when we asked the information desk in the Nagasaki station, they gave us all the details. The bus stop was across the street near the Yoshinoya and you have to take a special red bus towards Aba. There is no bus number, but if you look at the attached picture, you can match the kanji on the time-table to the kanji on the bus.
  • Great for penguin lovers, not too crowded. Have a penguin beach where the penguins wander onto. Have times for guests to do petting and feeding as well.
