Where to stay in Nagano

A popular resort city, Nagano offers a wide variety of places to stay, ranging from luxurious, elegant heritage inns to backpackers' hostels in former temples. Five-star establishments can be found outside the city, while hostels tend to cluster around the railway station. Business-style, mid-range, and budget hotels abound in the downtown area and slightly to the north, underneath Zenko-ji Temple. A number of affordable "ryokan" (guesthouses) and other temple lodgings can be found in the same area.

  • Places to visit! ••
  • Must go...
  • Spectacular Sanctuary (this is the "middle") located on the outskirts of Nagano (need to take a bus to get there). It is divided into three, actually, and although you can walk from one to another along paths that are in the mountain, depending on the time it may be too much (for heat). What I recommend is to take the bus to the sanctuary above (so called) and visit it, which in itself is pretty hard with a long way and many stairs then, to take a bus that will take us to the Middle sanctuary, and return to take another bus that leads then to the bottom.
