Kumano Nachi Taisha, Nachikatsura-cho

(4.5/5 based on 360+ reviews on the web)
See the fusion of Buddhist and Shinto influences that separates the region from others at Kumano Nachi Taisha, a UNESCO-protected Shinto shrine occupying the same plot as a Buddhist temple. Located halfway up the mountain, the shrine stands at 350 m (1148 ft) above sea level, with its impressive backdrop featuring the tallest waterfall in the country. The shrine's architecture and spiritual importance combine with the scenery to give the area an atmosphere of reverence and calm. Part of the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route, the shrine--along with others on the 1000-year-old pilgrimage route--has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. • Weather is not supposed to rain and time for parking near the No. 1 went by car. I think and walk down from quite a distance. Holly explained in writing and go up the stairs of the approach from which there is a shrine, but is not a superb on-site here is good. Especially the sacred tree was extraordinary.

  • From the parking gate Kumano ancient road just went a little bit left through go Temple. The value may be a good to have uneven cobblestones, so lame, but with time to walk from here. Meoto-sugi cedar and Prince is on the way. Walking for a while and you will see falls too far. Don't miss this too. The shrine itself, needless to say are great. Could be because it wasn't crowded when I went, standing quietly.

  • Is tiresome to go up the stairs, but on the way there Nachi black artifact shop, wood shop, rest at the temple.
