Munakata Shrine, Munakata

(4.2/5 based on 100+ reviews on the web)
Munakata Shrine is a collection of three Shinto shrines located in Munakata, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. It is the head of the approximately 6,000 Munakata shrines all over the country. Although the name Munakata Taisha refers to all three shrines—Hetsu-gū, Nakatsu-gū and Okitsu-gū—it is commonly used to refer to Hetsu-gū alone. As documented in Japan's second oldest book, Nihon Shoki, the shrines are devoted to the three Munakata goddesses. These kami are believed to be daughters of the goddess Amaterasu, the ancestress of the imperial family. Susanoo has also been worshipped there for many years as the god of mariners, and he has come to be worshipped as the god of traffic safety on land as well.Munakata Taisha is also home to many Japanese treasures. Hetsu-gū's honden (main shrine) and haiden (main prayer hall) are both designated Important Cultural Properties and the precincts are a Historic Site. The, the shrine's treasure hall located on the southwest corner of Hetsu-gū's grounds, houses many important relics including six National Treasures of Japan. Over 120,000 artifacts housed in the Shinpō-kan were unearthed on Okinoshima.

Munakata Taisha is away from the train station buses although ride it but wait easier it is. Short distance to the main building from the parking lot without a ban, easy to visit the various.

  • Is that being attentive to your history seems to be wonderful, but thankful for with elderly and disabled. Prayer, standing in front of the first car park is beside equipped ramps, wheelchairs are fine. In the left has a clean toilet. Nokyo-sho can in this way prayer hall. As the plain and straight forward from the side of the prayer hall is the main hall stairs. You can ride around the pond have arched bridge in the Middle, but. You can bench was firmly on the side of the sanctuary is lined, visit the rest. 2nd beside the Museum treasures if you park in the parking lot, headed into the environment from the left hand, so walking is difficult for worship parked in this one thing we recommend. Toilets built on the parking lot. Of course for the disabled in Western-style. If you have time, no. 2 Palace, three Palace, and takamiya Festival, please visit to the shrine is what. Takamiya approach from each side of the sanctuary, on the right-hand side, the head. No. 1-and no. 2 Palace is behind the main hall, so far is not the No. 3 car is right next door if you park in the lot. Takamiya Festival with the advent of Munakata third goddess is outside on the Hill, there is the stone, but left the firm positions held with either hand, climbed the handrail is equipped. There are 3 locations, 100 in total was? I think not to go up all at once, so elderly people slowly installing at their own pace. And treasures Museum to visit. The great national treasures worthy of a visit. It is open all year. Is in the crowd after the certification of world cultural heritage. Now you can see slowly.

  • In the mawaremasenn in time. Treasures Museum was much decorated swords and armor of the warring States period, I want them to photos. From Tenjin in the Nishitetsu bus Munakata issue was sporadically and was on the way back. Basic, private cars are better. In the bus is quite inconvenient.
