Landmark
Wonder at the natural journey of Rock-breaking Cherry Tree, a 400-year-old cherry tree. Sprouted from the tiny crevice of a giant granite boulder, it now rises 10 m (32 ft) and symbolizes the strength of the city in the face of the 2011 tsunami. Having survived the biting northern winters as well as a fire that engulfed the adjacent courthouse, the tree, year in year out, heralds the start of new life as one of the first sakuras to blossom each spring. Make Rock-breaking Cherry Tree a centerpiece of your Morioka vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Morioka tour planner.

  • One can make up a lot of philosophy from this but it is actually an interesting sight. Must visit once. Takes only 5-10 min.
  • It's literally a big sakura tree growing in the middle of large rock. It's inside a government office area so your access are very limited.
  • Not only is this famous tree a testament to overcoming seemingly impossible obstacles, but there are even staff in green berets helping visitors take group photos.
  • The tree representing: Amazing,Breakthrough, Challenges.
  • Theory Professor Asada Jiro's sword comes out, "Morioka cherry stone should divide Saki to prevent. Morioka Flos magnoliae is north facing Saki Megu sushi. I's, I was also with spring should come to wait for, is it?!. Southern Samurai stone should break Misaki shigeno. Morioka children who, with North facing Misaki shigeno. "It's there. This stone believe in Morioka to see the % of cherry, to reaffirm the spirit of their people. During the peak season much better don't cover the camera with each other do you see making. Is a tourist attraction, but in Morioka District Court, toilets, etc. No. River walk, about five minutes away Tak 1-Museum and from Iwate in stone think % cherry goods handling.
