Aoshima Shrine, Miyazaki

4.1
#1 of 19 in Sightseeing in Miyazaki
Landmark Tourist Spot
Soak up the reverential atmosphere and pleasant scenery at Aoshima Shrine, a Shinto shrine occupying an attractive spot in the jungle of the island's interior. Thought to have been enshrined in 820 CE, the shrine has become known for providing good fortune in marriage, with young couples arriving here to ask for luck in the years ahead. The shrine's buildings have been rebuilt numerous times over the years, though its bright and bold coloration today works particularly well with the surrounding jungle plant life. • “Peaceful place” It's a nice stroll to this shrine, first you walk across a stone bridge, then see Onino Senkatuita and then Aoshima Island, I never got the pleasure to walk around the island after visiting the shrine as it was raining quite heavy but the shrine is really worth the trip. The care and attention that goes into maintaining the shrine is done with lots of pride and it shows as the shrine is so beautiful and colourful, I'm glad that this was another fascinating shrine for me to visit and enjoy.
  • This shrine is really peaceful, located in the middle of the island, it releases calm and peace, with the sound of the sea is the best to rest and relax for a while.
  • Beautiful shrine. Good place for a trip with scenic view of the Pacific, good beach, can do surfing as well..
  • Good for pokemon, really interesting rock formations
  • Quite unusual setting for a shrine, surrounded by palm trees in the middle of a sandy island. Great place for a date or family trip.
