Irabu Bridge, Miyakojima

4.7
Cross the ocean on Irabu Bridge, a bridge connecting the islands of Miyako and Irabu. Measuring 3,540 m (11,610 ft), the structure stands as one of the longest bridges in the world, and its island-hopping span has been impressively engineered, with construction starting in 2006 and taking nine years to complete. More convenient for locals than the ferries that used to cross the divide between the islands, the bridge still allows tourists to soak in the views at a pleasant pace. Speed limits on the bridge remain restricted, making it easier to admire the ocean, islands, and the bridge itself without holding up traffic. A viewing platform in the center provides a good place to snap some photos. A visit to Irabu Bridge represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Miyakojima trip builder app to plot your vacation.

  • About 3 Km long and is a long sea road. Scenery is a good feeling and driving a nice road! Good views can be seen from the observation deck of the island, including.

  • Long views of the blue sea, so have fun. I think who once in a while I'm cycling there are ups and downs, so I have stamina. And the Sun is strong. But I want to do under the Sun like a prick that courage isn't a.

  • Awesome bridge... If you like bridges. Places to stop and take pics (or change tires)... And a little picnic area on the island end where you can get a weird or tasty ice cream.
  • If you are driving around Miyakojima, this newly opened bridge gets you to many nice tourist spots on the smaller island. As of 2016, many car nagivation systems still did not have it included, so you might need Google Maps to guide you. There are car pullouts on both sides at the top of the bridge for some nice pictures. The ocean looks very pretty from here in various shades of blue and green. Also stop at the Irabu end of the bridge for some nice views of the bridge itself.
  • The most beautiful bridge I've ever been (seen) in Japan. Landscape there is breathtaking!
  • The view at the bridge is very nice. But everyone should be careful the car n also driver should park their car very well!
  • Good view

Where to stay in Miyakojima

Most of the accommodations in Miyakojima cluster around the main harbor. Here, a good number of high-rise hotels sit in the most densely populated areas, around plazas, shopping malls, and parks, while resorts take over a little farther around the coast in both directions, offering a range of facilities including pools, spas, and private beaches. You'll find simple guesthouses on all of the islands of modern Miyakojima city, with the greatest number on the main island, either on the urban side streets or close to the main beaches.
