Mino Falls, Mino

(4.4/5 based on 220+ reviews on the web)
After an easygoing hike along the Mino River, take in the picturesque cascade of Mino Falls. First written about 1,300 years ago, En-No-Gyoja (the founder of ancient Japanese mountain worship) meditated beneath these falls for three years before going on to establish various temples. At their most spectacular after a day of rain, the falls plummet 33 m (108 ft) down the sheer rock into the river below, measuring about 5 m (16 ft) wide. You'll need to walk about 3 km (1.9 mi) along a paved path to reach the falls, so bring along some water and wear comfortable footwear. Look out for the insectarium along the way, which endeavors to display some of the surrounding environment's 3,000 species of insects. With our international travel planner, Mino attractions like Mino Falls can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • Minoh falls is a great city escape. It's a pleasant well paved walk and depending on your pace takes about an hour to go up and down. It can be steep in places, but finishes at a pleasant waterfall. T...  more »
  • Just a little bit away from the city, you can admire the splendid waterfall. During the summer months is the feeling that beneath the natural cooler very cool. Monkeys that requires attention.

  • Nice walk up the mountain to the falls. Best to go in spring or fall when not too hot or cold. Prime season would be during autumn colors, but expect crowds of people.
  • I totally adore this place. The waterfall itself is amazing, but the way to get there is equally wonderful. You can walk along the peaceful greenery and clean river, trailing through exotic shrines and buildings, to get there in about 30-40 minutes. It was a long and exhausting walk so we wouldn't recommend summer adventure here. However, we went there when there was a night event so it was wonderful for us. And the illumination was totally romantic!
  • Pleasant walk through the woods, with no monkeys in sight alas. Waterfall is not dramatic but it is scenic.
  • This is the nearest natures sightseeing spot in Osaka, we can go here by Hankyu Railways from Umeda st. To Minoo st.. and take about 30 minutes to Minoo st. From Minoo st. You can enjoy the entrances with local souvenir shop and enjoying maple leafs tempura. Enjoying time in here is precious, because you can enjoying sound of bird and water flowing to the valley.! The air also so breezy.! The best season to go here is on October to November during the fall, because the scenery is beautiful with maple leafs.
  • The walk from the station will take you through a small, quiet town with lots of shops and restaurants. Minoo has some beautiful hiking trails leading up to the waterfall, but if you're looking for a relaxing stroll there is a paved walkway that stays relatively flat all the way to the waterfall. Seeing the waterfall is great for a hot day as it's shady and quite cool. I enjoy buying some Minoo beer or ice cream and sitting at one of the benches next to the waterfall.
