  • Great museum in the former house of a collector/designer/publisher specialised in Folk Crafts. Gorgious potteries, kimonos, sashikos and all kind of beautiful "wabi-sabi" products. A bit out of city c...  more »
  • I write this as a huge fan of Japanese folk arts and traditional architecture. I was really looking forward to my visit to this museum. Here are my four reasons: First, it was a very small collection ...  more »
  • Soetsu Yanagi muneyoshi's interpretation of aesthetic can be seen every inch of the inside from the mingei Museum building. Also exhibits Yanagi muneyoshi's interpretation of the world itself, can enjoy the beauty of folk crafts. Yanagi muneyoshi's interpretation of old West is also wonderful. Going to the West publication date if possible is strongly recommended. Design of the Willow itself is old, I feel strong.

  • This museum is easily accessible from Shibuya, it's 20 minutes on the metro. While the museum is small and may not seem very grand, it actually provides you with a window into the artisans of Japan's past. The focus on common, not high art, is very refreshing. There are some beautiful pieces in the museum that validate your excursion to get here.
  • Nice building but an utterly dull display. Very expensive also at 1100 yen per adult. Not recommended.
  • Good exhibitions in a nice old building. Check before you go as on few days a second building is available to visit.
  • Explains the origin of craft revival movement in Japan.
  • authentic old house houses "rustic" art. ceramics, basketry and masks
