Nawate Shopping District, Matsumoto

2.6
#3 of 8 in Neighborhoods in Nagano Prefecture
Running alongside the Metoba-gawa River, Nawate Shopping District represents a stone-paved row of around 50 charming shops. During the 17th century, the street marked the border between the residences of the samurai class and the commoners on the opposite side. In present day, souvenir hunters have a range of interesting establishments to peruse, with shops offering antiques, curios, and knickknacks. Should you get hungry, explore options at the food stalls. Keep your eyes open for the statues of samurai frogs--popular photograph points that have earned the strip its nickname of "Frog Street." Shopping small shops lined knob back and forth along the river. Walking is a short and fun. I think there are other so-called "touristy" shops.

If you go 11:00 is better. Many stores aren't open yet and at the lonely Street is deserted. By mixing in something less than the discount was saying at first but decided to purchase good unique tourist business still shop there, offer discounts of food products from the emergency when the settlement and the short shelf life, was passed. Expired offers shelf 3 days away and bought the same product is not so can't really complain, but to date the most old and new than I thought whether or not. Stores that sell handicrafts, hand-crafted product is reasonably priced. Though if you use a credit card does not work and can be used to "you want to make in cash. Commission on "and was also refused the use of credit cards in a roundabout way. For better or worse I think typical tourist-oriented shopping.

Where to stay in Matsumoto

Matsumoto strikes a balance between the old and the new in its accommodations, as it does with most other aspects of its urban design and culture. The area directly around the main train station houses many of the newer options in town, including some large hotels, both basic and luxury, and a couple of smaller, family-run options. The more historic area north of here has hotels and "ryokan" (guesthouses) with a little more history and character, and with the main attractions of the old town on their doorsteps. The surrounding rural area features a number of hotels with "onsen" (traditional Japanese spas) and campsites.
