Nawate Shopping District, Matsumoto
(2.8/5 based on 220+ reviews on the web)
Running alongside the Metoba-gawa River, Nawate Shopping District represents a stone-paved row of around 50 charming shops. During the 17th century, the street marked the border between the residences of the samurai class and the commoners on the opposite side. In present day, souvenir hunters have a range of interesting establishments to peruse, with shops offering antiques, curios, and knickknacks. Should you get hungry, explore options at the food stalls. Keep your eyes open for the statues of samurai frogs--popular photograph points that have earned the strip its nickname of "Frog Street." Using our online itinerary creator, Matsumoto attractions like Nawate Shopping District can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • Not that interesting but OK for a stroll along the is street which is by the shrine and the river. Spent 10 mins walking this street.
  • Along the river you are this little street feature, with a frog on each side to bring good luck, street full of souvenir shops, other foodstuffs of all kinds even some local who sells what he, very pleasant as quaint walk the path.

  • A woman Toba River, flowing through Matsumoto City Central Street. In the cobblestone old while-like atmosphere. And the "frog" all over the place. Between station and Matsumoto Castle, is lined with many stores so just good to explore.
