Historic Site
Learn about the Japanese education system at Kaichi School Museum, one of the country’s first schools. Inside the school-turned-museum, you can view various educational materials, stretching from the institution's establishment in 1873 until now. The museum is housed in a two-story Western-style building featuring elements of Japanese architecture. Its Western architectural influences come in the form of its second-floor balcony, decorated pillars, and its white plaster walls. The building’s central octagonal tower and carvings of dragons represent the Asian influence in the building’s design. About 70% of its construction costs were covered by donations from local townsfolk. Our Matsumoto itinerary maker makes visiting Kaichi School Museum and other Matsumoto attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.
