Tofuku-ji Temple, Kyoto
Categories: Gardens, Sacred & Religious Sites, Nature & Parks, Tourist Spots
Serene and ornate, Tofuku-ji Temple operates as a traditional Zen Buddhist shrine. Erected in 1236, the temple was accurately restored in the 15th century after a devastating fire destroyed much of its structure. The temple boasts a Japanese national treasure, an imposing two-storied gate considered one of the most beautiful examples of Buddhist temple gates. Look for the temple's intricate woodwork and extensive gardens, each of which is landscaped differently to symbolize images and themes in Zen Buddhism. The number of people exceeded any expectation that we could do. Police forces you to make a certain route to reach the temple, so that we could cross the bridge and take the picture, but along with hundreds more people. Arriving at the temple the queue was already closed, did not support more people to wait in line to pay the entrance fee. If you go on those dates, consider going soon or change it to another day.show original
