Toei Kyoto Studio Park, Kyoto

(400+ reviews on the web)
Theme Park Water / Amusement Park
Head to the heart of Japanese period film making at Toei Kyoto Studio Park, an historical theme park and active film set. Made to look like a traditional street from the Edo period (1603-1868 CE), the facility provides the setting for more than 200 "jidaigeki" (period costume drama) films a year, and visitors get to see scenes being shot during their visit. Catch a ninja show during your visit, and take the chance to dress up like a geisha or samurai warrior, using the convincing props and costumes used in the films. • It was a little disappointing that all of the attractions like the maze, castle escape, and haunted house were extra after paying to get in but all in all it was fun. It is mostly for small children and is entirely in Japanese but adults can still enjoy and you can easily figure out what's going on through action and gestures. They do have a brochure in English that explains most of the attractions and where to go.
  • This is absolutely not a place for adults - lots of misleading web reviews say that it is. Might be fun with small children but nothing at all to do as an adult couple. Furthermore, after paying 2,200 yen on the door, you have to pay an additional 500 yen for each "experience" inside the park.
  • The place is everything I've imagined. The staff are also very polite and nice. It's very much worth it.
  • Fun park that was not very crowded when we visited, even though it was a Sunday. You get to watch some scenes out of old style ninja/samurai films live, just need to check the show times. There are also some attractions that activate several times an hour.
  • Its awesome. Went during a good time, so it wasnt crowded. Also the park looks authentic to the edo days. Souvenirs were really cool and the shows were amazing!
