(4.3/5 based on 600+ reviews on the web)
Take a relaxing walk on the lush, forested path to Shimogamo Jinja, an important Shinto place of worship and part of a World Heritage Site. Dating back to the 6th century, the Shinto sanctuary is known for the primeval wooded area that surrounds it. Enjoy the peaceful, spiritual atmosphere as you stroll among the tall trees, some more than 600 years old. Admire the brilliant red tori gates and mossy wooden buildings of the shrine, situated at the meeting point of two rivers and dedicated to the gods of harvest.
