  • Amazing walk in autumn along the gorge and then a medium hard climb up to this small Zen Buddhism outpost. Stunning views across and along the gorge. Can also see Kyoto across the way. Well worth the effort to reach this serene spot. Escaping the crowds is also a big bonus. Costs 400 yen when you reach the temple. Well worth it.
  • Very beautiful view of Arashiyama and Kyoto. The temple is off the beaten path and one of my Kyoto favorites! A visit is highly recommended!
  • Worth the trek, very friendly staff, and free tea. Very secluded with few tourists, so peaceful.
  • After a bit of hiking and stair climbing, I was rewarded by a gorgeous view of the Katsuragawa gorge right below and Kyoto City in the distance. During the fall color tourism season, Kyoto is inundated by tourists. But all you need is a pair of good shoes and a bit of instincts to find a place like this where you can appreciate the things you expected of in Arashiyama minus the crowds.
  • Magnificent view + helpful monk, who speaks English well and gives a brief introduction to the temple and its founder. Found this to be a more spiritual place than the places down in Kyoto...
