Saihoji Temple, Kyoto

3.8
#17 of 64 in Parks in Kyoto
Visit Saihoji Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site of Zen and peace. At the eighth-century temple complex, which is covered in over 120 species of moss, you'll find a central pond, which takes the shape of the Chinese character for heart. Find three tea houses tucked away in the garden, then head to the eastern side of the complex to find the temple hall and a three-story pagoda. Saihoji Temple is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our international travel planner, Kyoto Edition.

  • In the preamble: a booking is essential! Think about it well in advance (2-3 months) you will be in the atmosphere by a copy of calligraphy and a ceremony. Then only the doors of the gardens will be open to you. No word is too strong to describe the splendor that awaits you! Let the crowd go and wander at your leisure, we did three times round the garden. There were more than a few people!

  • Although away from the city center, with MOSS and foliage fresh green Maple personally was extraordinary, but nice autumn leaves. From Kyoto station by city bus terminal bound for MOSS. Admission in advance in the reply-paid application is required.

  • The MOSS Temple was one of the places you want to go in famous, too. Clutching a postcard and given 20 minutes prior to arrival. Had already begun the admission. To the prayer hall is lined with tatami on both sides, without breaking down sitting straight leg space in the bag even on knees, outside tables, but is a lame leg and to refrain from announcements, kneeling is hard, sure enough, this after my knee is worse, Now in the care of a poultice. Super fast Sutra difficulty breathing while chanting three times, Zazen wasan once, write their wishes on Goma Thursday, prayer's end. Guide to the garden and then go walking with droves, and plenty of time, slowly watching your garden cut shutter at the shooting spot is recommended if you want the end of the procession. Than I thought Moss garden, enjoying the beauty of the MOSS. There are, however, soon convinced pictures hard to shoot in the MOSS garden, decades ago saw a cameraman on the subject took place. It was a temple in many ways, become a good study. Shall be no revisiting of the Pocket cut.

Where to stay in Kyoto

Kyoto spoils visitors for choice when it comes to good accommodations, offering everything from traditional ryokans to luxury Western-style hotels. In a city used to receiving foreign travelers, you'll find that most establishments know exactly what to offer tourists and how to help newcomers to the area. To avoid paying premium prices during the cherry blossom season, consider staying in Osaka, located just a 30-minute train ride away. If you must stay in Kyoto itself, keep in mind that centrally located hotels charge more than those in the outer neighborhoods.
