Garden Religious Site
Visit Saihoji Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site of Zen and peace. At the eighth-century temple complex, which is covered in over 120 species of moss, you'll find a central pond, which takes the shape of the Chinese character for heart. Find three tea houses tucked away in the garden, then head to the eastern side of the complex to find the temple hall and a three-story pagoda. Use our Kyoto tourist route planner to add Saihoji Temple and other attractions to your Kyoto vacation plans.

  • One of the best experiences we have had during our stay in the Japan... A unique ceremony of an hour during which we write to brush our wishes on a wooden board so that it is then burned. But the magic lies in my view in the garden of the temple where the foam covers everything. An amazing atmosphere emerges from this garden and envelops us completely. I advise you to make the turn in the other direction than other travellers to cross them only at a time and power more peacefully from the rest of the course. A definite must! (By the way, pictures are far from being able to show the beauty of the show to attend)

  • I went to visit that Steven Jobs said the MOSS Temple. You can loose forget about time to admission costs 3000 yen, but the views over the garden. Arrived a little late, but that is in charge of our waiting at the gate into the cage, do not only appreciate. Sent a reply-paid postcard book is required because you are good.

  • Visit to Kyoto in July, we particularly appreciated this temple from the bustle. The visit procedure is, of course, complex and the "donation" required of 3000 Yen per person very high, but worth it. Meeting of calligraphy rhythmic incantations and kneeling at small desks, a blend of Greens and extraordinary harmony between stones and mosses. Discouraged with children. For the trip, avoid the very long bus ride and opt for the Hankyu Line to Matsuo Taisha. The walk of 10 minutes makes you go through a quite lovely small village.

Where to stay in Kyoto

Kyoto spoils visitors for choice when it comes to good accommodations, offering everything from traditional ryokans to luxury Western-style hotels. In a city used to receiving foreign travelers, you'll find that most establishments know exactly what to offer tourists and how to help newcomers to the area. To avoid paying premium prices during the cherry blossom season, consider staying in Osaka, located just a 30-minute train ride away. If you must stay in Kyoto itself, keep in mind that centrally located hotels charge more than those in the outer neighborhoods.
