Sagano, Kyoto
(4.1/5 based on 480+ reviews on the web)
The well established and otherworldly bamboo grove of Sagano conjures images of myth and legend, towering high above your head and splintering the sunlight. Along with the mesmerizing grove (also voted one of the 100 best soundscapes in the world), you'll find picturesque temple buildings to explore, reputedly aiding worshippers in fertility. Explore on foot, by bike, or by rickshaw, or step on board the celebrated scenic train ride--and don't forget your camera for the very photogenic atmosphere. The attraction can get busy, however, so consider arriving early to get a full experience. Work out when and for how long to visit Sagano and other Kyoto attractions using our handy Kyoto vacation builder.

  • The place is beautiful. and the temple and the River, and chic restaurants around ... but, as elsewhere in Japan, a lot of people. Make photo amid bamboo without crowds in the frame can only very early in the morning. And so, it's worth a trip to Arasijamu, where you can spend an entire day, buy a bunch of gifts, dine and relax the soul.

  • The food is amazing here. Yes, they are expensive. But worth every single yen. It was for me, some of the best Japanese cuisine I have had in a long time. I look forward to eating here in the future.
