Sagano, Kyoto

4.2
The well established and otherworldly bamboo grove of Sagano conjures images of myth and legend, towering high above your head and splintering the sunlight. Along with the mesmerizing grove (also voted one of the 100 best soundscapes in the world), you'll find picturesque temple buildings to explore, reputedly aiding worshippers in fertility. Explore on foot, by bike, or by rickshaw, or step on board the celebrated scenic train ride--and don't forget your camera for the very photogenic atmosphere. The attraction can get busy, however, so consider arriving early to get a full experience. Find out how to plan Kyoto trip without stress by asking Inspirock to help create an itinerary.

  • And Kyoto did so, we traveled in Sagano. 2 respect hospital and colored, overlooked persimmon Hall, her shrine and torokko Arashiyama rail came down from field of nenbutsu-ji Temple. It was a quiet calm atmosphere, appropriate Sagano. Go by bus of cortex-nenbutsu-ji Temple, came down so accommodating!

  • Tofu-based restaurant. Really good experience. Tasty dishes, beautiful dining experience in an old Japanese house, away from the main street and tourists. I'd recommend tatami seating over tables for the experience. Memorable lunch.
  • They only have 1 type of menu but delicious nonetheless. The tofu are clouds of yummy fluffiness. We seated in the tatami area facing the garden. Nice place for lunch before (or after) walking around the area / bamboo forest.
  • Sets going for ¥3800 each. First you are given a whole range of sides ranging from an onsen egg, Konnyaku with yuzu sauce, and some anchovies. This is followed by a hotpot of about 5-6 pieces of tofu per person which you can dip with their soy sauce. After this, rice is served with vegetarian tempura (sweet potato, pumpkin, ginger). The set finishes off with a tofu dessert with strawberry sauce on the top. Nice clean and healthy meal with a very nice rustic atmosphere that you eat it in.
  • A great authentic Kyoto experience! We loved the soft tofu boiled at our table as well as all the accompaniments. I think the meal was vegan aside from the optional dish full of tiny fish and a jellyfish dish. There was an English menu, but all the other diners in our room were Japanese. Gorgeous grounds and relaxing atmosphere-- a great place to fuel up and recharge.
  • Honestly I can't have an objective opinion. I didn't like anything but the steamed rice. Not because the food was not good, I'm just not too much in for those kind of tastes. Everyone around me ate everything! The garden is so peaceful and beautiful too !
