Sagano, Kyoto

4.2
The well established and otherworldly bamboo grove of Sagano conjures images of myth and legend, towering high above your head and splintering the sunlight. Along with the mesmerizing grove (also voted one of the 100 best soundscapes in the world), you'll find picturesque temple buildings to explore, reputedly aiding worshippers in fertility. Explore on foot, by bike, or by rickshaw, or step on board the celebrated scenic train ride--and don't forget your camera for the very photogenic atmosphere. The attraction can get busy, however, so consider arriving early to get a full experience. Find out how to plan Kyoto trip without stress by asking Inspirock to help create an itinerary.

  • It is one of the tourist destinations is everywhere is overcrowded, with crowds, but also the temple-hopping good means to keep to visit. If there is a time way back is Best to move take a train to Arashiyama.

  • Truck train is famous, but the bamboo walk is recommended. The rickshaw run. I do not hate, but be nice to explore. The birthplace of manyo-Shu, Yukari's spot.

  • We loved it there, but wished more clear signs or map sign of the area. I am sure it would have been more serene if there were not many tourists.,, however it was a good walk from Arashiyama.  more »

  • Hike up for a few mins and you'll find a small quiet park and excellent viewing point of the gorge below.Great place to get away from the crowds and enjoy the natural scenery of Arashiyama in any season. This is a more scenic route to the bamboo forest and scenic train
  • A lot to see in term of nature, shrine garden and shopping thru out the 4 seasons. Even many spots are crowded with tourists like myself but we were still able to find quiet oasis and enjoyed the area. Very beautiful place doesn't matter when we were there.
  • Quiet, away from the tourist crowd. Just a couple of local elderly chit chatting away~~~
  • Best part of Arashiyama if you want a splendid view of japan's colors of autumn.
  • Beautiful view point

Where to stay in Kyoto

Kyoto spoils visitors for choice when it comes to good accommodations, offering everything from traditional ryokans to luxury Western-style hotels. In a city used to receiving foreign travelers, you'll find that most establishments know exactly what to offer tourists and how to help newcomers to the area. To avoid paying premium prices during the cherry blossom season, consider staying in Osaka, located just a 30-minute train ride away. If you must stay in Kyoto itself, keep in mind that centrally located hotels charge more than those in the outer neighborhoods.
