Where to stay in Kyoto

Kyoto spoils visitors for choice when it comes to good accommodations, offering everything from traditional ryokans to luxury Western-style hotels. In a city used to receiving foreign travelers, you'll find that most establishments know exactly what to offer tourists and how to help newcomers to the area. To avoid paying premium prices during the cherry blossom season, consider staying in Osaka, located just a 30-minute train ride away. If you must stay in Kyoto itself, keep in mind that centrally located hotels charge more than those in the outer neighborhoods.

  • We kept walking along San'nen-zaka Hill, Ninen-zaka Hill, and Ryoma-zaka Hill to get to Ryozen Museum of History. The museum is known (well-known? or who-knows?) with its exhibition of Bakumatsu stuff...  more »
  • I was wandering around the eastern side of Kyoto, stumbling across pagodas, shrines, etc that seemed to be strewn willy nilly around the foothills and eventually came across the Ryozen Museum, a museu...  more »
  • Readable history of the end of shogunate and the restoration and display. Many students on a school trip. Showcases of the less well known, as well as the restoration of famous people. It is easy to understand is the trade name of Japan map to each prefecture officials have written. Imperialism, shogunate nght exhibits both equally.

  • If you can't speak Japanese it isn't really worthwhile due to almost no English whatsoever - prepare to have Wikipedia be your guide. Very interesting period in Japanese history though so worth learning about.
  • Informative place with very old antiques. Excellent for a refresh in history.
  • No english but definitely worth going to because the walk up to it is amazing. Quite small but if you can understand the language it seemed informative.
  • And I was even good. Prohibited, so taken was not dressed as Shinsengumi, photo shoots can be a very nice I.. You could touch the matchlock guns were used at the end of shogunate real. Hijikata third sword Yamato defense sources, national (Yamamoto of Minamoto tips in country) and dagger stuff, wakizashi, and impressed me-gumi fan,. But when I said I love anime series? (Hakuoki) and collaboration, and I had turned a blind eye might be those who like such things, but the favorite is noisy, loud and screaming when the character found only. I thought to Panel and animated to music Panel is still good if only a little, but I enjoy the long-awaited, annoying. I wanted to divide a room or something.

  • Within walking distance to the top of the mountain, so it's kinda hard. Therefore, on the way out minivan. Free of charge. History Museum itself is 700 yen.
