Pontocho, Kyoto
(4.1/5 based on 800+ reviews on the web)
While in Kyoto, experience the lively atmosphere of Pontocho, a narrow street lined with traditional tea houses, restaurants, and bars. The tiny cobblestone passageway comes to life in the evenings, when colorful lanterns light up the doorways of the small wooden buildings. You’ll be spoiled for choice by the array of eateries and bars that line the street, ranging from affordable street food to exclusive establishments that require an invitation. Take in the dynamic atmosphere as you stroll the busy street, or sit back in a bar and people-watch; you might spot a geisha or two heading to one of the geek houses in the alley. • I wanted to get to the dance performance of Geisha in Kyoto. Everyone knows that the show takes place in April with young girls, but not everyone knows that in may can be reached at Komagawa odori dancing and presentation with older Geisha (young there is also involved). Submission it is difficult to assess in terms of integrity, since no translation and storyline are not familiar. But to touch the culture of Japanese tradition is curious. such exactly nowhere. In the Hall and in the lobby you can see a lot of Geisha and maiko from different schools, it is of course always also very interesting. Dresskoda in fact no, I saw people in shorts, but imagine that there is loot, elegant silk Japanese kimono ... The problem with buying tickets website in Japanese and purchase is only available in Japan-contact hotel for help. Helped us buy tickets Hiirgaya ryokan. Give 2 or 3 submission per day. Buy tickets with the ceremony of tea drinking in the other reviews do not advise, we did not take. I think the experience of this rite in itself is unique and should not be an application to anything.

  • Visit the Pontocho is how to get in one of those scenes of Japanese movies, an alley full of lights and shutters. There are dining options for all tastes and pockets. If you want dinner overlooking the River Valley make a reservation before, because the tables are disputed.

  • Little street with many bars and restaurants! I love architecture! We will return to happen at night, because we went in the afternoon! It has all sorts of restaurants - for all tastes!
