  • I visited a ton of cat cafés during our Japan visit, dotted all over the country. This was by far the best. The owners and staff are friendly and helpful, the interior is cozy and suited to extended stays. Most of all though: all the cats are rescued and they are extremely well cared for and loved. These are the happiest cats I saw in any of the cafés I visited. I work with cats a lot back home so I'm pretty hyper-aware of body language in kitties. I noted some stressed kitties (or at worst, exploitation) at the other shops I went to. There was none of that here: the cats are content, relaxed, and clearly love the shop owner to pieces. They have places to retreat to and each cat's personality is respected. The owners make sure no cat is being touched or bothered against its will. I ended up spending nearly 3 hours here instead of the hour I planned on, and it was phenomenal. The location is beautiful and convenient, the pricing is reasonable and overall I could not recommend it highly enough. There are brochures in English and some of the staff speak it as well, so even if you don't know any Japanese I recommend a visit!
  • Coming to this place is the best detox from the madness that is the Fushimi Inari which is next door..it's so peacefull and quiet. The cats seem so relaxed and not bothered the least bit. Most of the time they are just sleeping and that puts you in a calm space. I noticed some one actually nods of whilst I was there. The lady who runs the place is great. Definitely visit this place if you are in Inari.
  • It was the first cat cafe that I visited in Japan. Well located, easy to find in the way to the shirne. A little small but cozy. A very friendly woman expleaned us everything about the cats and how to approach them. Friendly and well cared cats but as usual you need patience and time (or treats) to earn their trust. Good place to take a break and enjoy the feline company.
  • Nice little place to rest and spend time with several cute cats especially after visiting the nearby shrine. The cafe's cats are all strays or shelter animals and all seem to have space to be alone, sleep, and climb around. As such, the cat don't seem to be tired or stressed. Compared to other cafes, the prices are reasonable as well.
  • Friendly staff and gentle/calm cats. A nice cafe to chill with free wifi too.

Where to stay in Kyoto

Kyoto spoils visitors for choice when it comes to good accommodations, offering everything from traditional ryokans to luxury Western-style hotels. In a city used to receiving foreign travelers, you'll find that most establishments know exactly what to offer tourists and how to help newcomers to the area. To avoid paying premium prices during the cherry blossom season, consider staying in Osaka, located just a 30-minute train ride away. If you must stay in Kyoto itself, keep in mind that centrally located hotels charge more than those in the outer neighborhoods.
