Mt. Kurama, Kyoto

4.6
#2 of 17 in Nature in Kyoto
Lookout Mountain
Head up Mt. Kurama to find a place central to the region's natural and spiritual heritage. Topped with a famous temple and shrine, the forested hills are reputedly the home of Sojobo, King of the Tengu (Shinto gods and spirits who inhabit the forests and mountains). The hill has also become known as the birthplace of reiki: fans of the holistic practice flock here to witness the place where the founder of reiki, Mikao Usui, after 21 days of meditation, received the healing energy. • Although well-known power spot! Walk in the mood to ushiwakamaru. Fewer Japanese in the foreign tourists, come to the mountains of Kyoto's travel expert, and I was impressed. Back from kibune to Kurama-Dera Temple and ate ramen was very good. Walk a little ahead of time, 3 hours. I'd better slow you want addressed to the walking time 5 hours.

  • Pommel horse-trails for about 2 hours until the vessel was. Walked because it was a pretty hot day, drenched in sweat, but the many lush trees, shade of a tree so very well able to walk. Walks in the forest so air delicious and rejuvenating you. Bring a little extra to drink, vending machines etc no walk in the woods for a walk on a hot day. not enough water, was out drinking in the middle because it did not have more than 500 ml.

Where to stay in Kyoto

Kyoto spoils visitors for choice when it comes to good accommodations, offering everything from traditional ryokans to luxury Western-style hotels. In a city used to receiving foreign travelers, you'll find that most establishments know exactly what to offer tourists and how to help newcomers to the area. To avoid paying premium prices during the cherry blossom season, consider staying in Osaka, located just a 30-minute train ride away. If you must stay in Kyoto itself, keep in mind that centrally located hotels charge more than those in the outer neighborhoods.
