Kyoto Tower, Kyoto

3.5
#47 of 1,172 in Things to do in Kyoto
Enjoy a 360-degree panorama from the top of Kyoto Tower, the tallest building in Kyoto. The 131 m (430 ft) tall tower was opened in 1964 to coincide with the Tokyo summer olympics, and stands on top of a hotel and shopping complex. Visit the observation deck, which is nestled at a height of 100 m (328 ft), to observe the skyline of the whole city. You can also see the surrounding mountains, and even a couple of Osaka structures if the day is clear. Gaze through the free telescopes available on the deck, or visit the panoramic restaurant below. • A short walk from our hotel (Kyoto Century) and with a discount coupon courtesy of the hotel we took the opportunity to go up. Two stages of elevator and you reach the viewing platform with spectacula...  more »
  • Landmark visible from the Kyoto station Karasuma exit. And lit up at night, the April cherry blossoms? It was red. Designed with candles and candles? Somehow, it feels like, but tourists were taking pictures.

  • Not as dramatic as towers in some cities, but on a clear day, you get a great overview of Kyoto. There are really helpful touch screens that identify a lot of the interesting sites. It's not expensive...  more »

  • This modern tower in Kyoto is so worth visiting. After you’ve paid a small fee to enter the tower, go to the top floor and you’ll be able to use free binoculars to see miles around Kyoto. If you go out at night, they sometimes have light shows at the water fountain outside the tower and it’s really pretty. The only reason why I’m giving this four stars is because we got our hand lines read but the guy at the bottom of the tower did it so inaccurately, so it wasn’t worth the 300 Yen. But still, go to Kyoto tower at night and use the binoculars to see around - it’s beautiful from up there.
  • It’s an iconic piece of Kyoto history. The view once you get out of the station instantly imprints on your brain and you will remember it for the rest of your life (that was the case for me anyway). The basement and first few floors are chock full of souvenir shops with reasonable prices and some really good restaurants. It recently went through a renovation and now has an “onsen” on site. In the summer, views from the “Beer garden” are well worth the price! The only real downside is the price for access to the observation tower but. Pretty overpriced for what it is in my opinion. But worth it if that’s what you want. Well worth going to though regardless of any possible negatives.
  • This observation deck offers a handful of features to help tourists get a better sense of the city. There are educational touchscreen monitors that allow you to zoom in and learn about certain landmarks across the city. There are also binoculars, and a prayer shrine. While the view of city is definitely a wonderful sight, I wouldnt count this as an absolute must try when visiting Kyoto.
  • Very nice view. There are some shops underneath. You can get yourself a photo taken an a commemorative coin. The interactive tables that tell you what are you seeing were to look are greatly helpful.
  • Located just in front of Kyoto Station , so easily accessible. Here you can buy souvenirs . The information centre here also very good and friendly. Here also have a prayer room for muslim , you may ask the staff at information centre to use the room .
