Kyoto Tower, Kyoto
(3.5/5 based on 700+ reviews on the web)
Enjoy a 360-degree panorama from the top of Kyoto Tower, the tallest building in Kyoto. The 131 m (430 ft) tall tower was opened in 1964 to coincide with the Tokyo summer olympics, and stands on top of a hotel and shopping complex. Visit the observation deck, which is nestled at a height of 100 m (328 ft), to observe the skyline of the whole city. You can also see the surrounding mountains, and even a couple of Osaka structures if the day is clear. Gaze through the free telescopes available on the deck, or visit the panoramic restaurant below. • During our latest to Kyoto last month, we spared some time at night to take a few photos on Kyoto Tower. The landmark with a height of over 100M high was pretty and attrative at night time. Don't miss...  more »
  • I'd be in front of Kyoto station, in Kyoto, is a landmark visible from here. Tower lit up on the changes to a different color.

  • Frankly this tower not find it exciting, than many other new or old that wasn't supposed to be beautiful even when she was built fifty years ago. Not worth the ticket (770 YEN) views of Kyoto, a city that does not shine for its skyline. You will see coming out of the station and in the evening is a bit more graceful if you see it lit up, perhaps from one of the restaurants inside the Granvia Hotel. Anyway for those who want to get on it is open from 9 to 21.

  • Their observatory deck is smaller than my expectation but it gave beautiful view of the entire town in all directions (360°). We bought our ticket in the Kansai Tourist Information Center and got discount price (¥600 from ¥770), and it was worth it. You can easily locate famous spots in Kyoto with their free binnocular. We went on a sunny day and got to see Osaka as well.
  • The tower isn't very tall, but that's fine because it's taller than anything else in Kyoto, and right in the centre, so you get a great view of the entire city and surrounding area. It's only ¥750, so it's pretty cheap, at the top is a commemorative stamp, some souvenirs, photo opportunity with Tawawa-chan the tower mascot, on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, and plenty of free binoculars. There are giant touchscreen displays with multi language options that have information on all the main sights. There's also a great view of the local and Shinkansen train lines as kyoto station is just next door. On a clear day you can even see far as Osaka. It's not a must do, but if you have an hour to spare it's perfect.
  • Excellent view of the area. Handy interactive maps and free use binoculars. Found it a bit silly that we were let off at the restaurant first when we were ready to leave. Maybe we would accidentally buy dinner or something. Did have as good time a time as when I visited Sky Tree though.
  • For an old relic (50 years) ish building, it has its charms. And being japanese, they put kawainess in everything. Don't believe me? Look at the mascot and you will be wanting to buy a souvenir. Go during sunsets for best exp
  • Great view from Kyoto Tower. Kyoto does not have a lot of tall buildings, but the panoramic view is pretty worth it thanks to the many iconic temples. The tower is right opposite Kyoto Central Station so you can't miss it.
