Kyoto Tower, Kyoto

3.5
#47 of 784 in Things to do in Kyoto
Enjoy a 360-degree panorama from the top of Kyoto Tower, the tallest building in Kyoto. The 131 m (430 ft) tall tower was opened in 1964 to coincide with the Tokyo summer olympics, and stands on top of a hotel and shopping complex. Visit the observation deck, which is nestled at a height of 100 m (328 ft), to observe the skyline of the whole city. You can also see the surrounding mountains, and even a couple of Osaka structures if the day is clear. Gaze through the free telescopes available on the deck, or visit the panoramic restaurant below. The tower offers good views of Kyoto, which is quite a flat city sitting in a basin surrounded by mountains. It's an easy attraction to get to next to the main station. But in reality, the charm of Ky...  more »

It is a Tower located in front of the station. Go to the lookout, saw the 360-degree night. Little reflection glass was out of the way, but it was beautiful.

Kyoto station itself've very much East West, look out to see Kyoto Tower. Night watch is a red color, very special and very beautiful. Not over the Kyoto people compared to the game is the ancient miracle

Excellent view of Kyoto, binoculars are free to use and one can see multiple interesting sights (which you should visit later on), buildings, and even catch a glimpse of those Japanese bullet trains. Unfortunately, however, most city skyline views are very similar. Location is good, easily accessible. Visit if not very budget constrained. At the time Adults approximately ¥700 and lower for children.

A rainy day in Kyoto and this was perfect. A great view of the city and perfect to get your bearings before you set off to explore. The info-touchscreens at the top of the tower allow you to know what you're looking at, really nice way to get an overview of Kyoto. We also ate here - not at the top floor, but they have many different restaurants in a cafeteria-style kind of area on one of the lower floors. There's a bar at one of the higher floors that didn't look too expensive (and might be a good option to be up in the tower without paying for the observation deck, if you're not into that).

Really clean, the touch screens they have at the top to see tourist spots are cleaned every hour or so, which is nice considering a lot of people use it! Employees were nice when my mother lost something and they retrieved it. The view beautiful as well.

Not bad, just not very wow either. Good view of city and thats about it. Its about 500 yen each to go up there.

The view from top of this building is so beautiful. You can use the telescope to see Kiyomizudera and many other temple in Kyoto. From Kyoto Station, you just need to cross the street to reach this place

Where to stay in Kyoto

Kyoto spoils visitors for choice when it comes to good accommodations, offering everything from traditional ryokans to luxury Western-style hotels. In a city used to receiving foreign travelers, you'll find that most establishments know exactly what to offer tourists and how to help newcomers to the area. To avoid paying premium prices during the cherry blossom season, consider staying in Osaka, located just a 30-minute train ride away. If you must stay in Kyoto itself, keep in mind that centrally located hotels charge more than those in the outer neighborhoods.
