Kyoto Station Building, Kyoto

4.2
#1 of 89 in Shopping in Kyoto
Built in a futuristic style to commemorate the city's 1200th birthday, Kyoto Station Building serves as one of the country's main transportation hubs. Though Kyoto remains best known for its traditional architecture, this high-tech attraction designed by Hara Hiroshi stands out as a clear deviation from that style. As you walk through the station, take note of the steel-beamed roof, aptly dubbed "The Matrix." Beyond the well-known architecture, this station serves a practical purpose, providing millions of locals and tourists with not only access to major transport lines, but also shopping mall, movie theater, hotel, and numerous local government offices. Our Kyoto trip planner makes visiting Kyoto Station Building and other Kyoto attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • Isetan Department store, Yodobashi camera and BIC camera, Aeon Mall Kyoto. Avanti and underground shopping is available in abundance. After the train station building, an open-air staircase is. It is recommended to go take a look at the stairs to the rooftop, but views of Kyoto City.

  • Isetan Department store is connected. Ekiben is near the Shinkansen bullet train ticket in the train home (No. 30), you can buy in the corridor on the second floor. And just outside the gate of the second floor information and Cafe on the north side donut shop let's include heater outlets, where you can charge mobile phones and personal computers free of charge. Bus to the tourist attractions in the North. Leave the central station on the ground floor and Kyoto Tower appears in front of me. Exit central information in multiple languages for foreigners, is located immediately to the left. Requested to deposit lockers can be annoying to other users and to have big suitcases if available in the Kyoto bus and ride, ride from you can be.

  • I spent hours in Kyoto station, fascinated by architecture, greatness, and feverish organization. The steel structure is immense, structurally beautiful. Absolutely to see.  more »

  • From the outside it looks terrible, in my opinion, but it has a good range of shops (marked up prices due to its location) and pretty good views from the top floor and the walkway. Not a good location for photos though due to the tinted glass.
  • The architecture here is phenomenal and it has a wealth of restaurants to explore. Great omiyage (souvenir) options! Check out the top floors if you have time, there is a nice rooftop and view of the city.
  • 便利できれいな駅です。Fairly easy to navigate without knowing Japanese. Staff also pretty helpful. 10th floor ramen shops are recommended.
  • Great food! Check out mister donut (ground floor) and ramen alley (I think it's on the 10th or 11th floor). Make sure to get your ramen ticket outside at the vending machines before going in. Bibs provided at some shops so your top isn't ruined from soup splatter.
  • Cool place if not a tad busy. Lots of food choices. Wish the combini was a bit bigger.

Where to stay in Kyoto

Kyoto spoils visitors for choice when it comes to good accommodations, offering everything from traditional ryokans to luxury Western-style hotels. In a city used to receiving foreign travelers, you'll find that most establishments know exactly what to offer tourists and how to help newcomers to the area. To avoid paying premium prices during the cherry blossom season, consider staying in Osaka, located just a 30-minute train ride away. If you must stay in Kyoto itself, keep in mind that centrally located hotels charge more than those in the outer neighborhoods.
