Kurama Temple, Kyoto

4.5
#35 of 347 in Historic Sites in Kyoto
Religious Site Tourist Spot
Located in isolated wilderness high on a wooded mountain, Kurama Temple represents a center of worship for an esoteric sect, revering deities of the sun, love, and power. Hike the steep path to the 8th-century temple (which will take around 30 minutes), enjoying the wind through the colossal cryptomeria trees and a Shinto shrine along the way. Alternatively, take the cable car halfway up. Soak in the peaceful atmosphere of this popular--yet untouristed--temple, and observe the forested valley from its terrace, set directly on a mountain slope. • Kurama-Dera Temple worship when looking toward the same current around the kibune shrine first, and then, if you have time, Sakura may come home hot springs offers one-day pass is good. Kurama-Dera Temple I demanded to present it all strictly by Keihan day pass becomes a 100 yen discount, older women sitting at the reception desk at the wrong position that the temple upon admission, for example. The religious tourists at all would have been tax and faith is not money, is the feeling. Very much wanted to go near unworthy evaluation indicated that such attitude from the beginning, forever, so return to the den Hiei Kurama station,. much good comments in the spring, but only open-air bath available in the one-day pass, but difference between the 2000 yen offers a bath or the judgement of each individual is included in the one-day pass, or hot-spring baths soothe tired walking to it, is recommended. With shuttle service.

  • 蒸shi蒸shi hot city than arrive in the eizan electric railway Kurama. ' Cool! "This word. While watching in a souvenir to NIO. Stone steps rose Gate Station from 3 minutes to two-storied pagoda by cable-car. From here the red lanterns, further stairs rise Kondo to gentle slopes on either side. It is 30 minutes from here. Dense trees and pleasant to the mythological round Tengu legend. Central Hall prior to the guardian as well as Aun Tiger are tasteful and grinning. Said talked about people were lined up when it happened, capped a nokyo-sho and then walked to the vessel when young. Mountain walking there and back gate station in 30 minutes. It is the one seen out autumn is now a dark green Maple.

  • On Saturday in mid-June we walked to the vessel from the pommel horse. I saw landmarks such as Yuki shrine, Kurama-Dera Temple and tree root path, King Palace, kibune shrine. Without too much knowledge, but was now prepared the sneakers, tired to be honest. All the way in as little as 2 hours flat so far at least, has quite the climbing way. It is recommended to go in prepared. I think it's confidence in Kurama station departure to Kurama temple as your side from kibune-guchi station bus to take advantage to go was good. Walked the realms-Rama Spa was the best.

  • A spur of the moment decision to visit this temple on outskirts of Kyoto proved to be a wise move as it was one of the prettiest temples we visited in Kyoto with breathtaking views all around.
  • Well worth the hike over the ridge. Practically deserted, tranquil and lovely. A real religious aura to the place
  • I had gone with some friends in November to hopefully see the changing leaves. It was warm enough at this point of the year that not too many of the trees changed color despite being up in the mountains. The train that leads up to the temple has seats that are oriented towards the windows for this reason (as a note, when we went they did not take the ICOCA cards at the station). It was just cool enough to keep us from overheating from the walk up the mountain from the back side. If you go towards the front of the temple its a much easier trek. Loved the tengu themes, and the tiger statues replacing typical komainu ones. This temple is a great visit for scenery away from the business of central Kyoto. Not too far away is a pretty decent onsen too.
  • There is no such word i can describe.... Go there and feel it!!! 🌲🌲
  • Stunning Mt.Kurama! Great and breath taking view definitely worth you to pay your visit there!

Where to stay in Kyoto

Kyoto spoils visitors for choice when it comes to good accommodations, offering everything from traditional ryokans to luxury Western-style hotels. In a city used to receiving foreign travelers, you'll find that most establishments know exactly what to offer tourists and how to help newcomers to the area. To avoid paying premium prices during the cherry blossom season, consider staying in Osaka, located just a 30-minute train ride away. If you must stay in Kyoto itself, keep in mind that centrally located hotels charge more than those in the outer neighborhoods.
