#81 of 784 in Things to do in Kyoto
Explore a well-preserved historical district, and pick up some souvenirs at Kiyomizu-Zaka Street. Get a sense of old Kyoto wandering this bustling pedestrianized street, straddled by old wooden buildings and traditional shops. In these shops you'll find a wide variety of local specialty arts, crafts, and foods. Though most stores have been renovated at some stage, they retain their original aspect, and have served tourists and pilgrims alike for many years. Be sure to bring your camera along to capture this distinct street. Plan my day in Kyoto using traveler tips and tourist information provided by Inspirock.

The road which leads to Kiyomizu-dera. It's usually very crowded and because it leads to the Temple because it is full of souvenir shops, food, clothing etc etc it is very meet boys and Japanese girls with their traditional clothes and this gives the area a wonderful atmosphere. It is one of the typical streets of Kyoto and is not to be missed despite the confusion. It is however a great place to buy souvenirs.

Kiyomizu-dera temple's Gate Street, gently sloping Hill, lined with souvenir shops and restaurants on both sides of the road. Quite a lot of tourists are busy, but good.

Where to stay in Kyoto

Kyoto spoils visitors for choice when it comes to good accommodations, offering everything from traditional ryokans to luxury Western-style hotels. In a city used to receiving foreign travelers, you'll find that most establishments know exactly what to offer tourists and how to help newcomers to the area. To avoid paying premium prices during the cherry blossom season, consider staying in Osaka, located just a 30-minute train ride away. If you must stay in Kyoto itself, keep in mind that centrally located hotels charge more than those in the outer neighborhoods.
