  • Guests can enjoy both red and yellow autumn leaves. Also, impressive space views of Kyoto City and go up the mountain behind the temple.

  • This was one of my favorite spots from my trip to the Arashiyama area. The grounds of this temple are so beautiful! I couldn’t stop taking pictures! There is a fee of ¥500 per adult to enter the templ...  more »
  • More spacious grounds. Taho Pagoda on climbing to the top and go further on the observation deck. From the Mt. Hiei overlooking Kyoto City. Enjoy the seasons, Moss, maple trees, and flowers are planted.

  • What a gorgeous hidden gem! Called the Green Maple, there are so many colors of green that you can't name them all. The Moss is so gorgeous and I can't wait to go in the fall to see the maples when they change color! Such a beautiful place, just off the beaten path. I can't believe I left the super crowded main street and there was hardly anyone here. Perfect place to feel at peace... And what a great view!
  • The best place for maple leaves watching. It's quiet, peaceful and when you walk to the top you can actually overlook the whole Kyoto city. Entrance fee is ¥400 per person. Totally worthy.
  • Such a calming and beautiful temple. Well worth the walk and 400 yen
  • This quiet little temple complex would be easy to overlook but you would find the short walk getting here well worth the effort. I visited many temples during Golden Week but I was most impressed with the simplicity and natural beauty of this place. The surrounding gardens are well laid out and not over tended. So many places have swarms of workers really overdoing the groundskeeping. This garden is in great condition but not overdone and very natural looking.
  • A very peaceful and beautiful temple, be sure not to miss it if you are around!

Where to stay in Kyoto

Kyoto spoils visitors for choice when it comes to good accommodations, offering everything from traditional ryokans to luxury Western-style hotels. In a city used to receiving foreign travelers, you'll find that most establishments know exactly what to offer tourists and how to help newcomers to the area. To avoid paying premium prices during the cherry blossom season, consider staying in Osaka, located just a 30-minute train ride away. If you must stay in Kyoto itself, keep in mind that centrally located hotels charge more than those in the outer neighborhoods.
