Jojakkoji Temple, Kyoto

4.5
Take a peaceful stroll and enjoy a vibrant floral display along the mountainside grounds of Jojakkoji Temple. Climb up a steep set of steps and walk through the temple's main gate to arrive at the 17th-century structure with great views over Kyoto. The onsite museum holds ancient documents and personal effects of the Kodakura, a wealthy family of merchants who had close ties to the temple. • The sights of autumn. We expect fewer people, but the narrow Causeway was filled in. Walking up the Hill, such as mountain shoes recommended. Is beautiful, surrounded around the stairs of random leaves people much too's two-shot. Weak foot one street in front. Since climbing a steep hill.

  • This is not a big place, but because of the land-type relationship, maple leaves look particularly beautiful, but remember not to rain, because we have to climb the stairs, there is the previous day left the water, not to notice will easily slip, but here maple leaves really a lot, also very dense, to avoid the crowd is easy, so it is easy to get pictures of no one.

  • Jojakko-ji Temple is a quaint temple on the main Arashiyama tourist route that offers a chance to escape the crowds that swarms the area. A good little enclave to explore before heading to the forest.  more »

  • Way Better than expected. The highlight here is small section of bamboo with autumn color background. I don’t think one can get photos with such setting elsewhere! Plenty of fall colors that would put you in awe. Not many people, may be it was rain. Love it!
  • What a treat to go during the fall! Easily the best place to view Kyoto's fall foliage, yet this temple isn't well cited in many travel guides. Easily our favorite place we visited in Arashiyama district. You can get a great view of the city by climbing up to the vista point.
  • A very picturesque shrine with good foliage. The stairs leading up to the temple are one of its most photographed scenes. The main drawback here is it's highly trafficked -- in fact the most of the dozens I've been to in Kyoto. It was very difficult to take any kind of photos here without people obstructing you.
  • Very nice and harmonious garden with plenty of photographic subjects. The red maple leaves would have been gorgeous here. Be prepare to do some climbing.
  • Chanced upon this temple when visiting the bamboo forest. So incredibly beautiful! Quickly walk past the crowded bamboo forest and head here directly!

Where to stay in Kyoto

Kyoto spoils visitors for choice when it comes to good accommodations, offering everything from traditional ryokans to luxury Western-style hotels. In a city used to receiving foreign travelers, you'll find that most establishments know exactly what to offer tourists and how to help newcomers to the area. To avoid paying premium prices during the cherry blossom season, consider staying in Osaka, located just a 30-minute train ride away. If you must stay in Kyoto itself, keep in mind that centrally located hotels charge more than those in the outer neighborhoods.
