  • Next to the traditional tea shop, a tearoom offers several varieties of very good quality. Including the real tea from the tea ceremony: the koicha. The hostesses will explain how best to prepare the one you have chosen. The one who took care of us spoke a perfect french! Tea is always accompanied by a traditional cake. For me, an obligatory passage on a visit to Kyoto.

  • At 9 o'clock the door, is open late morning tea was tea. Over 20000 tax rebates. The packaging is very characteristic, buy canned tea, if not probably cheap carton 150, similar to Flash paper wrap, very nice. Next time will come.

  • Very nice place, a traditional shop yet with a dash of modern opulence. Staff was really friendly, tea was nice. you can only taste 1 tea per person..
  • The staff was incredibly knowledgable and helped us make great decisions. We sat in the tea room and were treated to a one-on-one training about how to prepare and poor our tea selections. The portions will be smaller than your average coffee shop back home. The experience of trying ancient teas exclusive to Kyoto is where the value lies. The flavors are very unique and probably not what Westerners are usually accustomed to, which adds to the experience if you're adventurous. The fact that Ippodo has been selling tea in Kyoto for 300 years and was the official tea provider of the imperial family made the experience even more special. Highly recommended Old Kyoto experience, even if you're not a tea-fanatic.
  • A beautiful, genuine and calm place. I'm a coffee lover and I didn't know tea could taste this good. I really recommend the tea tasting course!
  • Very nice place to have really good Japanese tea, many types and flavors. 1000 yen is the average for having tea with a Japanese sweet
  • Ippodo tea provides among the best tea I've had the pleasure of tasting. The service is good, though the tea speaks for itself.

Where to stay in Kyoto

Kyoto spoils visitors for choice when it comes to good accommodations, offering everything from traditional ryokans to luxury Western-style hotels. In a city used to receiving foreign travelers, you'll find that most establishments know exactly what to offer tourists and how to help newcomers to the area. To avoid paying premium prices during the cherry blossom season, consider staying in Osaka, located just a 30-minute train ride away. If you must stay in Kyoto itself, keep in mind that centrally located hotels charge more than those in the outer neighborhoods.
