Where to stay in Kyoto

Kyoto spoils visitors for choice when it comes to good accommodations, offering everything from traditional ryokans to luxury Western-style hotels. In a city used to receiving foreign travelers, you'll find that most establishments know exactly what to offer tourists and how to help newcomers to the area. To avoid paying premium prices during the cherry blossom season, consider staying in Osaka, located just a 30-minute train ride away. If you must stay in Kyoto itself, keep in mind that centrally located hotels charge more than those in the outer neighborhoods.

  • It is a great place for enjoying the beautiful scenes in the whole temple especially the bamboo forest. The quiet environment was able to make me feel calm and peaceful.
  • I had a nasty look from a monk at the entrance, since I was with a Chinese tourist. Not friendly at all and even a racist. The garden is nice but there are many other gardens which have much nicer views. Also there is a bamboo forest which is much smaller in size compared to other places like Kodaiji-temple as well as Arashiyama. Over all, this place is too far and not something worth visiting, especially this condescending look from the monk.
  • Bad service and too far from the city center. Nothing particular, there are many other temples much better than this in Kyoto
  • Came to the temple a late afternoon in December. Didn't realise it had such a splendid view of Kyoto, I was fortunate to watch the sunset. Entrance is 500 yen.
  • Enkoji Temple : Nice moss garden in its front with higan flowers grown in September. After visiting Matsugasaki you can go toward south along Shirakawa street and move toward east. That's how you get to Shugakuin district. There are some temples such as Manshu-in, Shisendo, Enkoji in the middle of eastern mountains in this area. This area is rich in nature and farm land and rice field up on the hill at the foot of the mountains. You see a lot of Higan Flowers along the way. Especially the ones at Enkoji Temple is spectacular. ( Trans-word+ : TGM Kyoto Guide 9
