4.3/5 based on 220+ reviews on the web
One of the oldest temple complexes in Kyoto, Daikaku-ji Temple consists of a variety of Buddhist shrines connected by elevated wooden walkways. Built on the grounds of a former imperial villa in the 800s, the temple has been the site of important political, religious, and cultural developments throughout its history. See the 1,200-year-old man-made pond, the oldest of its kind in Japan, which offers tranquility and raked gravel gardens. Once famous for its moon-viewing parties, which were atended by the royalty of the past, the temple now stages similar events for the general public during full moon. • And say go for the first time I went from a car parked on station, a bit difficult to understand is the way it is. Once you get used to walk, is about 10 minutes. It is worth a walk but it's just that a great temple! Excellent staff, clean room and walking while taking photographs will be many, many times about my favorite Temple is.

  • Visit by saying I like certain work-related areas. Keifuku electric railroad Arashiyama daikaku-ji Temple was a very quiet place, in a 25-minute walk away from the station. Recommended to visit here is tired of Kyoto Arashiyama station nearby. Could not had better take a long time so I went to evening sutras has been OK (lol) mini sutras in 5 minutes. Glad you feel were enshrined in it.

  • I'd suggest walking around the lake for free instead of paying for the temple. There's a small bamboo garden
  • Amazing place worth the entrance fee. Especially nice because only few tourist seem to get there.
  • Recomended for photography ... :)
  • absolutely nice place. As someone told already, you feel quietness here and it's like you are in a place nobody knows. We can call it secret place. I really recommend you to visit this place though I don't want anybody to notice this place on the other hand.
  • Really nice temple with few tourists! When you visit the temple it is extremly quiet and it is surrounded by a bamboo forest. It is a bit far from the center of the city but it is truly worthy!
