  • Interesting experience, cat cafe in Kyoto. No sign outside in English, go up to 2nd floor. Over 12 cats all rescued as kittens, some from same litters. All cats are well cared for and seem comfortable and happy. Go if you love cats, don't go for the coffee.
  • Very pleasant experience. These are all older rescue cats which was the reason I chose this place. However that means that they might be less playful then some of the "name brand" cat cafes in Tokyo. We came in and there were maybe 10 ish cats laying around. Two of them were in clothes which I did NOT like at first. But then the women who worked there brought out an information book in all the cats and that's when my heart broke. All rescue cats and the two who were wearing clothes have several allergies which means they will lick off all their fur. Poor babies. The cats got more excited when we bought treats for them- which was worth it for the extra affection. A couple of them sat on people's laps and they all like to have their butts patted hard- the workers showed us. This was a less playful time then I was expecting. But I am so glad I gave my money and time and affection to these cats.
  • The cats seemed happy and the atmosphere was relaxing. I don't know how friendly other reviewers are expecting the cats to be... they're cats. They seemed pretty happy to come over after a little while, and as the staff will point out, the cats are all really into being patted rather than stroked for some reason.
  • Cats wearing clothes, some off them locked, and rude welcome. I've almost been kicked out after 50 min, nice.... Cats seemed so stressed, I never saw this in another cat coffee. Maybe today was a bad day, but for me was a bad experience, even if I tried to stay positive until the end! (about prices, 900 yen to get in, drink from 200 to 300 yen)
  • Lots of chubby, older cats who enjoy nice firm pats on the butt. A few will sit on your lap if you keep petting them. I like that these cats here seem like rescued cats and not designer cats (scottish fold, munchkins, etc) like other cat cafes.

Where to stay in Kyoto

Kyoto spoils visitors for choice when it comes to good accommodations, offering everything from traditional ryokans to luxury Western-style hotels. In a city used to receiving foreign travelers, you'll find that most establishments know exactly what to offer tourists and how to help newcomers to the area. To avoid paying premium prices during the cherry blossom season, consider staying in Osaka, located just a 30-minute train ride away. If you must stay in Kyoto itself, keep in mind that centrally located hotels charge more than those in the outer neighborhoods.
