Museums Parks Sightseeing
The port city of Kure possesses a rich history of shipbuilding, and has served as a major naval base since the 19th century. Its strategic importance made it the target of extensive bombing during World War II; today, several of the main places to visit in Kure are war memorials and monuments dedicated to global peace. A number of museums tell the story of Kure's development, its reputation in the fields of shipbuilding and defense, and its continued importance to the country and wider region. Use our Japan family vacation planner to arrange the hows, wheres, and whens of your trip to Kure.

Where to stay in Kure

Kure has a few accommodations across its main urban center. Located within close proximity to the main museums and other attractions, they consist primarily of business hotels set in high-rise blocks, offering comfortable rooms, a pool, and a restaurant. Few international tourists opt to stay in Kure, however: having seen the museums and other sights during the day, most will head back to their accommodations in Hiroshima, just 30 minutes away along the coast by rail or car.
