#1 of 19 in Things to do in Kunigami-son
Lookout Tourist Spot
The northernmost tip of Okinawa Island, Cape Hedo combines far-reaching ocean views and a rocky coastline. Walk along lush green trails that hug the cliffs' edge, gazing over clear blue water crashing against the rocks. Drop a coin in one of the many boxes to pay tribute to the gods of sea and wind, and look for the white stone sculpture of a mythical creature with the body of a fish and the head of a bird. If you're itching to get into the water, you'll find plenty of good spots for snorkeling and scuba diving. Where to stay in Kunigami-son

You'll find a handful of resorts, guesthouses, and hotels close to the sand, or along Highway 58 as it makes its way to the main urban area to the north. Some inland hotels offer the chance to stay in the jungle for a night or two. Many more visitors opt to visit here for only a day, having set up base in the more populated and developed areas to the south.

  • Worth a stop if you are visiting Northern Okinawa. Good parking and a couple short paved trails to some overlooks. The area has some high cliffs above the water, so the view is exciting and it is a good photo opportunity.
  • Appreciate wind, sea and sharp cliff. A long drive. Place it as one of the stop by points for the north Okinawa day trip.
  • One of the multiple must see locations in Okinawa. Bring yen for snacks if you decide to eat at the cape or at nearby restaurants. The drive to this location has great views so bring a camera.
  • Fantastic views over the ocean, beautiful cliffs & wild countryside. Well worth the drive across the island.
