Where to stay in Kumamoto

By far the majority of the accommodations in Kumamoto lie to the east and south of the main park containing the castle. Ranging from budget guesthouses to luxury hotels, and even luxury guesthouses (traditional "ryokan," with onsite spas), the accommodations of this central district are spread fairly evenly between the park and Shirakawa River. Many visitors to Kumamoto opt to stay further to the west along one of the peninsulas that jut out into Shimabara Bay.

  • I have been in Japan for a long time, so temples and shrines don't seem that unique anymore, but the Honmyoji temple complex is really nice. You can really get a feel for traditional Japanese temples here.
  • 1 year 2 months after the quake also still requires the time to recovery. But Kato kiyomasa's tombstone, climbing stairs is a good workout.

  • View from the West of Kumamoto Castle in the temple. Fell shrine stone lantern in the earthquake and gate have been struck, but where the atmosphere is.

  • The shrines like I maariimaaせa I. (^ Q ^) / degrees worth it to go there. Right or wrong. Since the front gate may fall and does not enter from the times road on the left.
