Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, Koto

(4/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web)
Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo boasts contemporary and post-World War II Japanese art, as well as iconic works by Warhol, Lichtenstein, Rauschenberg, and Hockney. Learn how Japanese artists abandoned traditional silk painting to embrace early 20th century European art. Erected in 1995, the museum building represents a piece of contemporary art in its own right, blending steel, stone, and wood and featuring spacious galleries. The museum hosts frequent temporary exhibits dedicated to subjects like fashion, architecture, design, and animation. The lower level houses a cozy cafe, where you can rest with a hot cup of tea or a snack. • I did not like the current exhibitions, anything that. It's more interesting the museum's structure.
  • It might be smaller than those big institutions and what you are expected but we had a wonderful time wondering around and were pleased to have found this place in the middle of no where. Building its...  more »

  • Went for the Pixar 30 year exhibition, nice facility but it was constant bumping into people. Crowds are huge and I feel with all the tourists, they can have some more foreign speaking workers
  • I visited on a rainy weekday for its normal exhibition. It was quite empty and half of it was under maintenance. The works were quite organized though, and there is a small library inside.
  • Love all the museums in Tokyo. Affordable and clean!
  • Have to take either a 2 stop bus or walk 15 minutes from the nearest subway stop. Quite costly for multiple exhibits, but well curated.
  • Amazing building in itself worth a visit. Seems to always have good exhibitions on, went to the current showing about Tokyo and it's future which was very interesting. Two good cafe choices with nice food.
