Where to stay in Kobe

Kobe does best with sleek mid-range and high-end hotels offering views of the skyline; book rooms facing south for views of the bay during the day and the city lights at night. Luxury hotels along the waterfront are pricey but offer impeccable comfort and service. You can find last-minute accommodations at the city's budget hotels from the information desk in the main train station or online. For a very Japanese experience, try out one of the city's capsule hotels, known for ingenious space efficiency.

  • Nice place to spend an hour or so. Wonderful displays, with information in several languages. Gorgeous smell of wood, a zen sort of place, easy to reach but entrance was not so easy to find - it's on ...  more »

  • Excellent historical displays. Even better as we had one of the senior curators providing a personal explanation and demonstration to our tour group
  • Carpentry Museum in the beautiful modern Japanese architecture 5 min from Bullet train (Shin-Kobe) station. Amazing display of 1300 year old "nail-less" method of building, which is still being practiced.
  • Great museum of you're interested in Japanese tools and their history. There is a full tea house "naked" and a temple column sample.
  • Gem close to Shin-Kobe station! The display of the exhibition and the house itself is worth the visit. One of the highlights of my trip in Japan, mostly because of my interest in wood!
  • Mind blowing. The building itself is worth the entry fee
