Meriken Park, Kobe

#9 of 47 in Parks in Kobe
Explore the city's port area during a visit to Meriken Park, a waterfront area offering a range of cultural sites. Lawns and courtyards provide ample room for recreational activities and relaxation, with the grounds neatly punctuated by contemporary sculptures and fountains. The park displays some of the city's most cherished Modernist architectural works, including the buildings that house the maritime museum and the iconic port tower. Devastated by the 1995 earthquake, the park contains a memorial to those who lost their lives here during the disaster. • When I went to the Meriken Park Oriental Hotel enjoyed on the waterfront of Meriken Park. See the mosaic side while listening to the sound of the waves from the Oriental Hotel mosaic-side views and Nice, as well.

  • Late in the evening at the hotel, walk slowly, more than I would expect this Meriken Park was a peaceful and beautiful place. Not too much is also ideal for a cool fall night really good

  • The newly renovated Meriken Park is clean, wide, spacious and perfect for picnics. There is a Starbucks and a small snack place. Would be perfect if it has a small convenience store as well. There are no garbage bins so remember to bring home your litter.
  • I definitely like it here, but I'm surprised by the number of five star reviews. Nice view here, but it won't change your life.
  • [♪Take Me out to the KOBE!] …♪Buy me some steak and sweets♡for it's one, two, three, Man-yen you're out! At the old Kobe city ♪……٩⚾︎ง
  • One of the best thing about Japan is that it is very handicapped friendly. We met a wheelchair user in the train who was also heading to this park, and he found no difficulties reaching this place :)
  • Wide area for a walk and enjoying breeze of wind from the sea. When I was there at the morning I stumble upon a flea market. It's just right around the Kobe Tower. It add more interest to the spot other then just some statue and remaining of some broken walkway that was cause by the famous Kobe earthquake.

Where to stay in Kobe

Kobe does best with sleek mid-range and high-end hotels offering views of the skyline; book rooms facing south for views of the bay during the day and the city lights at night. Luxury hotels along the waterfront are pricey but offer impeccable comfort and service. You can find last-minute accommodations at the city's budget hotels from the information desk in the main train station or online. For a very Japanese experience, try out one of the city's capsule hotels, known for ingenious space efficiency.
