Kobe Port Tower, Kobe

3.7
#8 of 267 in Things to do in Kobe
Soak up panoramic views from the top of Kobe Port Tower, an icon of the city's skyline. The structure remains famous for its hyperboloid lattice structure, reminiscent of a Japanese drum. From the observation platform, you can witness views reaching as far as the peaks of Mount Rokko and the distant Senshu region. A glass floor reveals a 75 m (246 ft) drop and provides additional vistas to enjoy. See the city from different angles at the revolving cafe, rotating a full circle every 20 minutes, time enough for cup of something hot. • We took a stroll in the evening. It was a very relaxing place to feel a bit of sea breeze and a magnificent view. There are lots of restaurant nearby, high end dining and also coffee shops.  more »
  • It is a symbol of Kobe Meriken Park. I think admission is required to climb, but to expedite Meriken Park is far better than the Kobe port and the port tower becomes memories. Common ticket with the Maritime Museum is recommended.

  • I loved the waterfront that offers a great view and it's also a perfect place to relax, to have picnic and hang-out with family and friends. The place is lovely, simple and tranquil but I loved it!
  • It's a nice view from the top so you see not just the ocean but the mountains and city scape
  • I loved it. It is very simple and not high, compare to other towers, but in nice area.
  • A good object to be photographed at. But not really worth it to visit the observation deck.
  • Very nice photo opportunities! Must see skyscraper/Kobe skyline.

Where to stay in Kobe

Kobe does best with sleek mid-range and high-end hotels offering views of the skyline; book rooms facing south for views of the bay during the day and the city lights at night. Luxury hotels along the waterfront are pricey but offer impeccable comfort and service. You can find last-minute accommodations at the city's budget hotels from the information desk in the main train station or online. For a very Japanese experience, try out one of the city's capsule hotels, known for ingenious space efficiency.
