Arima Onsen, Kobe

4.1
#1 of 171 in Spas in Kinki
Take a dip in one of Japan’s oldest bathhouses, Arima Onsen, a hot spring resort in a scenic mountain setting. Mentioned in documents for the past millennium, the resort offers two public bathhouses and a number of inns that feature baths for non-staying visitors. Explore the small town, check out the hot springs museum, or sample cookies made with mountain spring water. Have a traditional onsen experience and bathe in two types of hot spring waters: the “gold,” which is rich in salt and iron, and the “silver,” which contains radium and carbonate. Using our custom trip planner, Kobe attractions like Arima Onsen can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • A really great place to chill out after a long day of hiking in the mountains of Kobe ! The hot springs are very relaxing and I am definitely recommending everyone to go there since it is one of the best onsen in Kansai. There is two type of onsen: the gold one and the silver one. Both of those are usually very crowded so I guess it wouldn't be a bad idea to try out one of those that are in the hotels located around the place.
  • Very convenient onsen area, just 30 min bus from Kobe. Some good tourist spots and comfortable paths to walk around the area. The place in general has charged premium on the convenience though... there are many places in Japan which can offer similar experience with lower price (but will be more remote for sure)
  • One of the best Hot spring area in Japan.
  • Relax!!
  • It's really kind of a rural village, Japan has seen three times, one of the most helpful. And it is so good and the hot spring ... The next time you want to stroll the village more than a lot of my Kyoto dotonbori.

Where to stay in Kobe

Kobe does best with sleek mid-range and high-end hotels offering views of the skyline; book rooms facing south for views of the bay during the day and the city lights at night. Luxury hotels along the waterfront are pricey but offer impeccable comfort and service. You can find last-minute accommodations at the city's budget hotels from the information desk in the main train station or online. For a very Japanese experience, try out one of the city's capsule hotels, known for ingenious space efficiency.
