Kirishima Shrine, Kirishima

4.2
At Kirishima Shrine, explore the "realm where gods once descended." Once located at the foot of Mount Takachiho-no-mine, this Shinto refuge suffered repeated destruction from volcanic eruptions. The current shrine, last reconstructed in 1715, rests surrounded by tall pine trees and ranks as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. Examine the traditional Japanese architectural style, where vermilion lacquered columns and joists stand decorated with richly colored reliefs. Visit the 800-year-old sacred pine tree, believed to have powers to answer prayers. In fall, forest leaves blend with the shrine, creating a harmonious and vibrant scene. Stop by the tourist information office at the entrance for help and guidance. Put Kirishima Shrine at the forefront of your travel plans using our Kirishima online route planner .

  • Main shrine of the vermilion-lacquered in a fine 見惚remasu. This is the Jingu Shrine on the mountain so much better, take a look at to go. Just the time that Office closing time 10-was 15 minutes ago and already starting to tidy up the maiden nokyo-sho was unfortunate was asked a little annoying face would be benefited.

  • The Kirishima Onsen district. Two straight days to visit on a sunny day, rainy day people are less visited, but was a long line. See also Sakura-Jima and I think still famous. Kagoshima Shinto shrine, and the overwhelmed in the 800-year-old cedar trees. I think it was so crowded as a city is not because it is hard to stop the car at a crowded country. Visit.

  • Amazing complex of shrines and tori gates in the middle of a forest, you can really feel the peace and calm around you, one of my favourite shrine in whole Japan after traveling 3 month from okinawa to hokkaido, laid back, off the track, great onsen in the town below, also shops and inns, the little town closes it doors generally early, so don't count on late night activity.
  • 古蹟保全十分好,古樹參天。 The temple was relocated and rebuilt here after it was burnt down by fire. It kept the traditional building method of using wood for all the temple. In ancient time, many leaders came here to seek for advise and pray for peace before setting out for wars. It was a famous and popular sites for tourist. It was a grate and beautiful temple surrounded by tall and thick woods / tress. People feel peaceful while walking into the area. You feel walking back to century. Good place for photographers.
  • a quiet and soothing place where you can have a peace in mind. don't forget to buy a love fortune telling card which is decorated with a japanese girl/boy paper art piece, cute!
  • Really beautiful shrine. Wish we could go in to see more of the shrine
  • Beautiful shrine, though a bit difficult to find out the parking which is right there..Just keep going strait..Beautiful view of the mountains...

Where to stay in Kirishima

Most tourists and visitors in Kirishima opt to stay in one of the hot spring onsens that dot the foothills of the Kirishima Mountains. You can find several basic inns and hotels in the city center as well, but most of the accommodation options lie in the surrounding villages, where they provide easy access to the hot springs and the national park. The hotels and traditional ryokans, or Japanese-style guesthouses, usually include private bathhouses, pools, and saunas.
