Uchinoura Space Center, Kimotsuki-cho

The Uchinoura Space Center is a space launch facility close to the Japanese town of Kimotsuki, in Kagoshima Prefecture. Before the establishment of the JAXA space agency in 2003, it was simply called the Kagoshima Space Center. All Japan's scientific satellites were launched from Uchinoura prior to the M-V launch vehicles being decommissioned in 2006. It continues to be used for suborbital launches, and has also been used for the Epsilon orbital launch vehicle. Additionally, the center has antennas for communication with interplanetary space probes.HistoryEstablished in February 1962, the Kagoshima Space Center was constructed on the Pacific coast of Kagoshima Prefecture at Uchinoura for the purpose of launching large rockets with probe payloads. Prior to establishment of KSC, test launches of the Pencil Rocket, Baby Rocket and Kappa Rocket had been performed at the pioneering Akita rocket test facility from the mid-1950s to the 1960s. However, progress in rocket development and larger launch vehicles required a site with more expansive down range than the narrow Sea of Japan. After consideration of various candidate sites, Uchinoura in Kagoshima Prefecture, fronting the Pacific Ocean, was selected. At 31° 15' north latitude and 131° 05' east longitude, and situated in hilly terrain, the site at first glance does not appear to be exceptional; however, landscape engineering resulted in a launch facility which maximizes the unique terrain features of the site.

Have an interest in space development facilities, so went the Uchinoura Space Center. Unfortunately approached the ferry ride, so I couldn't time is only about 40 minutes. Still, balloon Cup dream experience. At the beginning, and admission procedures at the reception entrance, receives a permit. This is returned when you leave. Site is so wide that to go by car. Hall is in 2 places. On the relationship of time to just m. (MEU) Center. This is the first, plainly, a giant M type rocket launcher. Overwhelmed by the enormity. Next to the lying, the m-v rocket. Just looking at another, the excitement. It was a very happy time. I think tour time is 2 hours or more required when you visit here. Have a plan.

Rent a car in Miyazaki city, went on a two and a half hours drive to Uchinoura Space Center. Miyazaki through the shibushi city along the shoreline and go into the mountain has sight big white satellite dish antenna to the top of the mountain, and learned to leave a big impression. After reservation was not that the admission at the gate, according to the rules can move in the car yard free. Entrance location next to the statue Hideo Itokawa, the father of Japan's space development and Japan's first artificial satellite "ohsumi" model was displayed. I would also to experience at least once scattered and parabolic antenna for satellite tracking and radar there meter Center and observation rocket launch site, control center, m. (MEU) Center, Epsilon air traffic control center, 34 m and 20 m in diameter, such as the tour just look good. You could finally enjoy in the space science museum, history of rocket development.

Knowing and have facilities on the Mainland of Kagoshima and rocket Tanegashima is interested in very interesting, went. Observation facilities and launch pads are scattered in the mountains. It is a tour inside the route determined by their car around and visit the Museum in the last movement. Is the enormity of the Observatory, was like only slightly touched on the scale of the universe. I think if you come near a must-see.
